How long would Ive to be without teeth before I can go with dentures?

Q.
Dear Dr. Caplan, I am 34 years old and used to have fantastic teeth (needed my first ever filling when I was 18), but for some reason within the last 5 years my teeth have pretty much rottened/crumbled away. I’ve been told by a dentist that this is due to chewing a lot of sugary gum. I have continously been undergoing several treatments (6 extractions, root canal, crowns etc.) but it seems to have just worsened the situation. Whatever crowns get put on my teeth seem to come apart withing a couple of months damaging more of what little tooth is left. I am now at a point of considering having what is left extracted and wearing dentures. could you give me your opinion (pros/cons) on this as I am getting very conflicting advice. Also do you know how long I would have to be without any teeth until I can wear dentures? Many thanks

Is dentures a best option for my sensitive teeth

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009
Q.
I have gum disease and tomorrow I am having yet another tooth taken out from the top this will only leave 7 teeth, no back teeth. It is difficult to eat meat now and I cannot bear my teeth to be cleaned as they are so sensitive. I feel my only option now is to have the 7 teeth removed and wear a top denture. I do have a phobia about the Dentist and at 50 now it will never improve. My Dentist has now realised that I cannot put up with the pain of them being cleaned and would need each tooth to be numbed. Do you think my best option is to go for a top denture?

What would be cost of 11 extractions top jaw and a really good fitting dentures

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009
Q.
Hi there. What would be approx cost of 11 extractions (under sedation) top jaw and a really good fitting denture, full top set. I am looking into implants but may have to do it in stages due to the cost. Would the extractions and fitting of dentures be something a cosmetic dentist would do ? as i notice that some dentists on here say you should get the mouth in healthy condition first before seeing a cosmetic dentist and my mouth is no where near healthy. Many thanks for your time.

What sort of dentures do you recommend flexible denture or metal one?

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009
Q.
Dear Dr Caplin In February this year I had two teeth removed from upper left plus the front two. THis left me with 6 missing teeth. I have been quite fortunate in recieving a NHS denture that fits fairly well. However I find eating awful – the plastic teeth give a rotten sensation. My question/s is what would you recommend- a flexible denture or metal one? Are the teeth always made from plastic? I dont really want to go down the route of implants – costs, nerves etc. Please can you recommend me a dentist near to where I live in Bognor REgis. What roughly would the cost be? Thank you for your time. Kind REgards

Monday, August 17th, 2009
Q.
I had my front tooth removed due to root being cracked I have had tooth on pallet inserted. My dentist was very busy and I did not ask enough questions, it came as bit of shock as the pallet feels like a plastic bowl in my mouth. I cannot talk properly at all and I rang dentist but closed as this procedure took place at 5pm today. I think My dentist told me I have to take pallet out every night but am not sure as fell quite upset and could you please give me your advice regarding the above – I may consider implant if I cannot get used to this. Your help would be so appreciated as my health is poor as it is having suffered fractured sacrum, sorry to go on but I feel a bit lost. Yours sincerely kind regards

My anchor tooth broke off so would I be suitable for dental implants or partial dentures

Saturday, August 15th, 2009
Q.
I have recently had quite a bad experience with a local dentist – after root canal work under a capped tooth, the cap and anchor tooth broke off. I have other teeth missing and really need some advice as to whether implants or a partial denture would be most suitable. I have just spent £500 for an inadequate temp. solution and would like a free consultation but, having visited your site and rang your clinic, I was told that the free consultation advertised does not apply to my problem. Can you help please? Can you clarify? Thanks
