How long before crown can be attached to implant?

Monday, January 18th, 2010
Q.
Dr Tennet, How long (how many weeks or months) could you wait between the dental tooth implant being placed in the jaw bone and when the post and crown must be placed over it. I am looking for the maximum (not to exceed) wait time figure.,

What treatment is best for injured teeth?

Monday, January 18th, 2010
Q.
Hi there. Unfortunately I fell in the ice two weeks ago and my teeth took the brunt. I’m very anxious now about my prognosis / future treatment. My front left tooth was pushed up into my gum and broke horizontally – it is now dead, receiving root treatment and has a temporary crown – it will likely be extracted. My right front tooth was chipped badly and now has temporary composite on it – but it is still mobile. The tooth next to my left front tooth also chipped and is still mobile. There is also fractured bone fragment in my gum above my front teeth. We don’t know what this is from. My teeth were perfect before this so needless to say, I am devastated. Also I have no dental insurance and so I’m naturally worried about costs. I’m also worried about infections / treatments / procedures and how long this will take. This is particularly worrying as I work as a child psychologist and I’m concerned about how much time I’ll need off. I’m based in Glasgow. My dentist is being excellent with me, but seems very unsure about prognosis. X rays were not clear. I’m anticipating that I’ll need all 3 extracted and almost want to reluctantly encourage this as I fear the longer they’re in, the more damage they might cause to my remaining teeth. Also, if my front teeth are extracted, how would that affect my face? The first dentist I saw in emergency said that my face would sink inwards, which I am very nervous about. Any advice about cosmetics / dental treatment would be hugely appreciated as I’m getting increasingly anxious. Also concerned it is slowly affecting my confidence which I never had a problem with before, as I continue to avoid social situations (due to aesthetics and obligation to eat / drink) and I’m also fearing I’ll never be able to eat a burger again! Thank you for your time on this and I look forward to hearing your response. Kind regards,

What is the lifespan of a dental implant?

Monday, January 18th, 2010
Q.
Hello. I have read that a well-maintained implant can last 20 to 30 years. My question is, by ‘implant’ do they mean the titanium screw or the crown? When an implant has reached it’s lifespan what options are available? Is it usually ok to have another implant fitted immediatley (if said person has maintained very healthy teeth) or can their be difficulties with the bone where the older impant has been removed? I appreciate your response.,

Will any dentists offer me low fee dental implants?

Friday, January 15th, 2010
Q.
Hi Dr Moore.Apart from your friendly face I chose u as I too live in Essex. I have multiple health issues resulting in not having many teeth left.Very briefly I had a mesenteric throbosis in 96 which resulted in having several bowel resections and now having only 35cms of small bowel.I have osteo arthritis,Recurent kidney stones, approx 15-20 a year, herniated back discs and severe pain issues requiering morphine pain relief,I am currently have very few teeth left. Also been on steroids for 13 years 13mgs daily.I have NO back teeth that meet therefore kinda chomp with my front teeth which has now caused them to begin desintigrating so now have to have a mainly soft diet. Before being medically retired in 96 I was a social worker.I am still a young 45 and truly dont want full dentures oh and Im on clexane anti couagulant.Complicated huh.I get a lot of bad days but still try to have a half full cup not a half empty one. What I want to ask u is do u know of any organisation or dentist who would give me maybe 3 or 4 implants on a charity/very low price basis.I am on benefits but woiuld be willing to give what ever i have to pay whatever i could towards the treatment.I dont even mind being used as a teaching aid but dont want students working on me as i had that at the London years back and wonder if that didnt cointribute to my current goat teeth look.If u cant help thanks anyway for taking the time to read my letter.Best wishes n kindest regards .Oh if u google my name i have 2 articles online one as the patients story at st barts urology dept and an article for the BBC online starting i think with ‘I have hundreds of stones. Thanks again.,

Thursday, January 14th, 2010
Q.
My dentist tells me that I have to lose two adjacent teeth on the lowwer jaw right at the back (not wisdom teeth because they never came through). Can I have implants to replace these at a later date or should they be done at the same time as extraxtion?,
