Value your advice on replacing tooth after root canal?

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010
Q.
I have had a root canal on my bottom front tooth but I am still having problems with the nerve below the tooth. I am thinking of having the tooth removed (its discoloured now) and having a bridge fitted. What would you recommend ?,

Crown feel liks it has moved and bite feels wrong – any advice?

Monday, February 8th, 2010
Q.
I had some cosmetic work done on my teeth in November including the fitting of 3 veneers and 3 crowns. I have been experiencing problems with the new front crown (which is a post crown and had resulted from an injury 35 years ago when I lost the tooth in an accident) the same crown had been in place since then. The tooth next to it was fitted with a veneer, the new crown I have now discovered is all porcelain. I learnt this on my return visit to the dentist when it was causing discomfort and the bite wasn’t right. I returned twice more before Christmas because the bite was still not right and I was experiencing discomfort from the new crown. Finally in despair I visited another local dentist – I live in Devon who was recommended to me because he specialises on bite issues. He took a layer of the porcelain off the back, which has relieved the discomfort in that tooth no end. The veneer next to it is still catching though so I am going back to him this week. I now wish I had never had the original work done and had kept my original crown which had caused no problems all those years. Sorry for the long email – will get to the question! It feels like the new front crown has moved – is that possible? If I came up to the Mulberry – when the weather clears – would you with your bite machine be able to tell me whether the bite or where the bite is off and also check whether the new crown has moved? Many thanks,

Is dental crown falling out as can see some of original tooth?

Monday, February 8th, 2010
Q.
I have had a crown on my top front left tooth for 15 years. It now has shifted down some from the gum and you can see the original tooth a little. The gum around the tooth does hurt a little. Is this a sign that the crown may be falling out? I am considering whitening my teeth and replacing the crown. Im not sure what to do but I am so paranoid that it will fall out.,

Is dentist trying his best to make my treatment most expensive?

Friday, February 5th, 2010
Q.
Dr. Moore, I recently cracked a tooth a few months ago. I went to my dentist who did a crown and B/U. Before he started, he stated, “Gee, I hope we don’t have to do a root canal”. It seemed like he drilled very far down for the crown. Seveal wks went by and it still hurt. I went back and he said if it didn’t get better in a few months, I would have to get a root canal. My wife also went to get a new bridge put in. He also seemed to drill too deep to connect her bridge and told her the same thing. Is this coincidence or is he setting us up for more expensive procedures? thanks.,

Why can daughter not get crowns on NHS until she is 18?

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010
Q.
My 17 year old daughter has been told she needs to have several crowns fitted, due to decay. However, her NHS dentist refuses to fit them until she is 18 or 19. Is there any reason they cannot be fitted now?,

Should I stay with NHS dentist for crown treatment or go private?

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010
Q.
I am registered with an n.h.s. dentist who is practicing in a verymodern surgery. I am considering having my front crowns replaced (maybe 6) after about 20yrs. He has quoted me £400 each for Procera replacements which will obviously be private treatment. What I would like to ask is would I get better results if I went to a private dentist or is he just as qualified even though an n.h.s. dentist. Does being an n.h.s.dentist mean he’s not competent enough to be in private practice yet because I don’t want him practising on me. Thanks in anticipation of reply.,
