My crowns are metal infused, it looks faky, got dark line emerging on the edge. if i were to redo the crown how many days it will take? what are the procedures?

Monday, January 30th, 2012
Q.

I was woken up on friday night, with really sharp throbbing pains in my tooth, molar, which was crowned about 6 months ago, I have been taking painkillers for 2 days but is no good, pain is still there and is strong, do you think i have an infection in my crown?what could this be? I have not had any root treatment for this tooth. I have had another crown on a different tooth, but that has not given me any problems, I havent made an dentist appointment yet should I make one? Thank you for your time doctor

What are the differences between NHS and private practice crowns?

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011
Q.

Subject : NHS or Private Crowns ?

My dentist has described some differences :
NHS = ‘flat’, unnaturaly opaque white with metal eventually showing at gum edge as I age.
Private = Translucent white, MUCH more like MY real teeth.

But I was surprised he couldn’t show me examples of Private ones to compare with my existing ageing NHS ones (saying I could only really tell once they are in MY mouth – a bit late I thought !)

Its very hard to justify the extraordinary extra cost (as I need 4 Crowns) when I’ve never been ‘teeth-conscious’ before.

Matching my existing yellowy teeth OR suffering (or risking) whitening them is another new issue I’m sure I must decide before choosing crowns.

Can you help me make these important and expensive decisions ?

The two crowns fitted to my front teeth are too big, is there anything I can do?

Thursday, October 20th, 2011
Q.

Hi I had veneers fitted 15 years ago to close quite a large gap I had in my front teeth. I never thought of having a brace fitted at the time & thought this would be a quick fix to solve the problem. My dentist suggested I had crowns fitted as the veneers were continuously falling out. My front teeth look too big compared to the rest of my teeth & I am very self consious about this. I was wondering if there was any way these could be made to look smaller, or is there nothing I can do about this due to having crowns fitted. If this could be done would it be very expensive to correct.

What is the difference between a veneer and a crown?

Wednesday, September 28th, 2011
Q.

Hi There Dr,

I wanted to ask you, What is the difference between veneers and veneers? and which 1 is more beneficial?

Im very inconfident about my smile, even though, I dont have bad teeth or smile(Alhamdulillah), but the thought of having veneers or lumineers placed and giving me that perfect smile I want would be my dream come true.
The other question was, If i wanted to have this done? could I spread the cost over a period of time or is it a ‘one of payment’

Id appreciate a reple soon

Thankyou,

Take care,

My tooth has turned black after brace treatment, what can I do?

Wednesday, September 28th, 2011
Q.

Dear Dr. Hughes,

After I got my braces put on 4 years ago my right front tooth turned gray/black at the top. My dentist told me that It lost blood flow and was dying. He said I must have had some tooth injury as a child where it was damaged, and with the braces moving it, it lost its blood flow completely. I do not recall any tooth injury as a kid but that was my dentists best guess. I had a root canal but it is still very dark. Now my braces are off and it is very dark and embarrassing. Will it fall out? What are my options to get it fixed? The dentist I used said it was an osteopathic tooth death. I am afraid if I pay to get a crown, it will then fall out and so I do not want to get a crown if there is a chance it will fall out anyway. Also it sometimes has a weird sensation, not necessarily pain but I can feel the tooth and it isn’t pleasant. I do not smile now and I really want it fixed with the best possible outcome. Thank you so much!

My dentist has suggested root canal treatment and a crown for my twisted tooth, is this correct?

Tuesday, August 30th, 2011
Q.

i have a good tooth in my front upper jaw (central incisor 1) but its twisted and is overlapping upon its next one (another central incisor. Now thats making my smile look bad. I have seen a dentist and he, after examining x-rays, told theres no space between my teeth and brace are not an option for me. then he suggested me a solution that is he will grind the tooth and root canal and then put on a crown.

is it ok?? is what the doctor saying right? after coming back home i got a question that is why do i need a root canal? Cant i simply grind and wear the crown?

is this the right solution that he suggested.. is there any new technology in the developed world?

Is now a good time to get my teeth replaced?

Tuesday, July 12th, 2011
Q.

hello Doctor.
question = I grind my teeth while sleeping very badly. My back teeth are worn down too much and my bite is too close which is uncomfortable and gives me headaches.I think I pull my lower jaw backwards to be able to close my back teeth. second problem is because of excessive grinding all my life I have lost most of my teeth and have either crowns or implants. I have a bar of 8 crowns held on by 5 implants at the top front of my mouth. I was never happy with them because the gum at the front shrunk as much that even with the bridge of 8 crowns it still looks like I have no teeth and they are not seen when I speak or smile. when I had my own natural teeth they were all showing at the front when I spoke or smiled. the bridge of crowns that I have just now have become loose and before I get them recemented I wanted to know if its possible to have the whole of the top set of teeth replaced so that they open my mouth more at the back and show more teeth at the front when I smile or speak. hope Ive explained that properly 🙂 thank you

I have a black line showing at the top of my crown, what should I do?

Monday, July 11th, 2011
Q.

I had post crowns fitted some years ago on my top two front teeth. A year ago I had root canal treatment, and since then there is a highly visible black line between my crowns and my gums – I think it is the metal from the crowns.

I was informed that I am not able to have the post crowns replaced and would therefore like to know what my options are as I am becoming increasingly upset about this black metal showing.

thank you for your time and any help you can give
