How good is the quality of CEREC crowns?

Q.

Hi there dr Patel, I recently had my front top right crown replaced because it was a metal – ceramic and a shadow was visible at the top. However I am not happy with the new crown which is all ceramic but the colour is not quite right.
Do you only do CEREC crowns or do you use ceramic/porcelain also . I am very keen to have a good match and my current normal teeth have been whitened and are fairly translucent. Are CEREC teeth as good looking as a good porcelain tooth. I am really upset with the work that has recently been done and I want to have the best possible work done. Thank you for your time.

I’m not happy with my crown, what should I do?

Q.

Hi there, wondered if you could help me with something? I just got a custom made zirconia abutement made and a zirconium crown put in. It was for a front tooth very close to the middle of my lower jaw. My question is why is the abutement so big for such a small space and the crown was very big and thick in the back and when over the back of my natural gum line. I thought of this is that the abutement is not custom made???? And the work he done of my crown was very poor. The dentist told me he made the crown to be bigger on the back to cover the custom made abutement. I don’t understand why a custom made abutment in the first place is so big and looks like a pre-fabricated one to me.

My crowns are chipped, do I need new ones or will cosmetic bonding fix them?

Wednesday, July 4th, 2012
Q.

I crown my four front teeths (a pair on each side) almost 15 years ago. 10 years ago it chips in front in the middle, but i went to a dentist to do a bonding in the edge to mend it. Today, both pair of teeth receded and the gap reappear. My right hand side pair of teeth obviously seems stick together, look unnatural, when people speak to me, i feel that they keep staring at my teeth and know it is a crown. i can see laughter in thier eyes. And the gap in the middle making me uneasy and very self conscious. I don’t know what to do, do i need to redo the crown or put some layers of veneer or bonding to touch up the worn teeth. please advice more in detail and specific because after this i will go to a dentist and have my teeth checked, but i like to know before hand what should be my good alternatif and not making more wrong steps cause it already causing headache and making me withdrawn from people, i try not to open my mouth or smile in order not to show my teeth!

Wednesday, July 4th, 2012
Q.

Dear Dr. Moore:  I need your help. My dentist has no idea as to what is happening, and I am seeking another professional opinion as to what I should do in regards to this problem: I also finished my dental benefits.

I have had root canal treatments and crowns on teeth 7&10, I am suffering from severe pain now on both teeth, and my teeth are loose.

Also, teeth #8&9 have denal implants and crowns on them. Tooh #8 got split in two because of an accident I was involved in when I was 8, I am now 42, does this have anything to do with it?

Dark spot found on tooth #10 on ct scan.

Please help me. Thank you for any advice in advance.

My porcelain crowns have turned yellow! What can I do about this problem?

Wednesday, July 4th, 2012
Q.

Hello
I had porcelain crowns fitted approx 10 years ago, (8 on the top teeth) when they were fitted they were a nice natural cream colour (not too white) and matched my other teeth. Unfortunately in recent years they have yellowed. A couple of my friends have commented on this too. When discussed with my dentist he says it is impossible to discolour. This leaves me not knowing how to proceed as I know tooth whitening does not work on crowns? I have read it is possible to remove glaze on crowns by hygienist cleaning but I dont know if this is the case? How can I now proceed as a smile i was once happy with has gone. kind regards.

Do I really need a crown? What are my other alternatives?

Q.

hi dr, i was just wondering if you could help me? i have a cosmetic filling on my front tooth. it has been broken since i was 10. the filling is now starting to get old and the change is starting to show. i am now 19 and when i asked my doctor to simply change it he said that it cannot be done and the only way to repair is by a crown. i’ve been highly discouraged for that solution because i don’t want to file my whole tooth for a small piece that would become more unstable than my current filling. is there any other solution you may recommend?

p.s. : I am thinking about taking up a boxing class, would it be safe if i used a mouth guard? Thank you for the help.

I am not happy with my crowns but my dentist will not replace them, what can I do?

Monday, May 28th, 2012
Q.

I recently had all old crowns in front replaced. Problem: I have a long thin face. The dentist who applied my old crowns followed the contour of my face when affixing the crowns. This filled my face out and dimished my long thin face.
With the new crowns, the “new” dentist (older dentist now retired) decided I needed thinner crowns and shorter ones. As a result, I look “sick!” She will not change them and instead told me “we could obviously not work together.” I sought another dentist who does not want to replace these crowns with thicker and longer crowns as well. He wants to do crown lengthening to the top 4 front and then “maybe” make the crowns a little bit thicker…but not much. Should I seek yet another opinion?

My new dental crown does fit along the gumline, should I be worried?

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012
Q.

My lower right 3er molar whit a big metal filling inside, cracked just up to the gum line. The dentist did a porcelain crown on metal. He said he did not want to trim the sides of the tooth too much therefore the porcelain crown border is almost 2mm over the gum line next to the cheek inside, exposing the tooth between the crown border and the gum. Instead the crown border is precisely at the gum line in the other side next to the tongue.
Is not dangerous to leave the tooth exposed between the crown border and the gum line?
Or is it worse to trim more the tooth?.Thank you for any information
