Tuesday, May 31st, 2011
Q.

Hi Mark,

I want to ask you … what are the best front crowns for colour matching against a vaneer for your front teeth? and how long do they last in comparison to the porcelain on metal or all porcelain. I would love to have my teeth whitened but have been told by my dentist that it is not possible to do on crowns and vaneers?

Please could you advise

How many times can you have veneers replaced?

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011
Q.

Hi there doctor ,

I got veneers for my 2 front teeth about a year ago but I’m not too happy about the colour. I’d like to whiten my teeth and replace my veneers to match the new colour of my teeth. Is it possible to replace my veneers? Is there a limit to replacing them? Also, my veneers feel a little shaky sometimes. If they do break off, do I have any other options? I’ve read that veneers can only be replaced twice in a life time at most. Any truth to that?

Thank you for your time

I have sjogrens syndrome and my dentist tells me I need to have dentures. Other options?

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011
Q.

Hello doctor, I have sjogrens syndrome and now have a mouthful of crowns all of which are shifting and my dentist has said that in the near future they will have to be replaced. I do have one real tooth left which he is going to have to completely remove this month. The only options he has given me is a mouthful of dentures, which horrifies me at aged 39! My dentist thinks that implants will not work because of the sjogens and because periodically I have to take steroids. I just wondered what are your thoughts and experiences on implants and sjogrens patients? thank you for your time

My dentist has put crowns on my fillings, why is this?

Monday, May 23rd, 2011
Q.

Hello,

I had a very large deep filling 6 months ago.

My dentist was not sure if it would work as it was so deep and a large amount of tooth missing. It did work and now 6 months on I went for a check up and he has booked me in for a crown fitting.

The dentist provied no explanation for the crown and I was left confused. I am not altogether happy with my dentist, I am never provided with full explanations and all my appointments seems rushed.

I got a second opinion from a dentist friend (they did not actually see me, but we talked over the phone) my friend said a crown is not needed as the filling/tooth is not causing bother to me. I also asked my hygenist who said the crown may not me neccessary.

I am usure what to do? Stay as I am with the filling and see how I go or have a crown fitted?

Get another opinion from a different dentist?

Thanks

My dentis gave me a gold crown instead of a porcelain one, what can I do?

Monday, May 23rd, 2011
Q.

I had a crown fitted recently and it was not what I have expected. Before the procedure I had two dental appointments during which I have discussed with my dentist about the type and colour of the crown. I clearly asked for a porcelain crown and picked out a shade from the catalogue. After a crown has been fitted I saw that a gold crown was in place, not the porcelain I had picked out. The dentist does not take any responsibility for the mistake and just said that nothing can be done now.
Is there anything that could be done to correct the problem as I’m not happy with the way the gold crown shows when I smile?

Does teeth whitening weaken or damage your teeth?

Monday, May 23rd, 2011
Q.

Hello Doctor
Does teeth whitening weaken or damage your teeth in any way and would you recommend it for any age? I am 53 and am considering having four porcelain crowns at the front but I would like my teeth whitened first and then have the new crowns match them. I am concerned that I may be damaging my teeth by having them whitened. And as my teeth aren’t naturally white does the whitening fade and if so how often would I need to have the treatment?
Thank you for your time

Why are my crowns turning black at the gum?

Monday, May 23rd, 2011
Q.

Hi
About 5 years ago I had 2 crowns fitted to my 2 front teeth.
I went to the dentist yesterday as I have noticed in the last year or so that one of the crowns has developed a grey line at the top at the gum line.

I seem to recall being told before that this was often an issue with crowns as the gum recedes. However when I asked my dentist about the cause, she said that it was nothing to do with gum recession but that she thought there was a problem with the crown. She thinks it might have a crack in it which is causing bacteria to get in and rot the remaining bit of tooth underneath and hence making it go black. She suggests replacing both crowns to ensure a colour match.

Could you give me your opinion please as to the likely cause of this dark line?
Her advice would be very expensive and disappointing after only having them done 5 years ago.

Thanks

How long will it take for my husband to have implants and crowns instead of dentures?

Wednesday, May 18th, 2011
Q.

My husband has just had his 4 front teeth taken out & now wears dentures. His bone & gums are in terrible condition, but we have been told that he might be able to have injections to rebuild bone & gums, then have implants with a bridge! How long does this procedure take & is there an estimated cost. He has only had dentures for a few days, but I don’t think its suiting him. How long will he have to wait for the process to start. He doesn’t have any infection in his gum, so will he have to wait long? My husband is only 42 so dentures for the rest of his life is not an option! Help!
