I would like to know, ideally how long after tooth extraction should implant procedure be performed?

Q.
I recently had my 1st upper premolar removed after it broke and was unable to be restored. What I would like to know is as follows. (1) Is it normal for the adjacent canine tooth to feel a little numb following extraction? (2) Is it normal for me to feel this canine tooth resting on my upper lip much more, following the removal of the first premolar? I assumed that this is because there is no longer a premolar there to fill out that side of my mouth. (3) During the healing process is it normal for the gum to look white where the tooth was extracted? I am due to return to the dentist in a couple of weeks for a check up, but I am unsure as to which tooth restoration method would be best for me. And would very much appreciate if you could advise me on this matter. I am not keen on having a bridge to replace this tooth because the 2nd upper premolar next to the one that was removed has already been restored with a filling. Neither do I want to grind my canine tooth down in order to place a crown on it in preparation for a bridge. I am also unsure about how a partial denture works, but I do know that I prefer not to choose a restorative treatment that will detrimentally compromise the health of the adjacent teeth to the one that was removed. I have heard about dental implants but considering that I had the tooth removed very recently. I would like to know, ideally how long after tooth extraction should this procedure be performed? This is in consideration of potential bone loss and the healing process following tooth extraction. Although I prefer the option of a single dental implant, my main concern is the cost of this procedure. Due to a low income, what I would like to know is what would you advice would you give me in terms of researching this option considering my financial circumstances. I have heard that some dental schools offer this treatment at a reduced price but I am weary of the amount of expertise and experience these dentists will have in performing this procedure. Currently residing in the East Midlands, UK I am unsure as to whom I could be referred to with regards to this form of restorative treatment. I would ideally like to be referred to someone either in the East Midlands or London area who won’t charge me extortionate prices or who allows you to pay for the treatment gradually or on some type of dental plan. I am also unsure if dental implants are available on the NHS to someone in my circumstances. If it isn’t available on the NHS, could you please tell me on average how much the full course of dental implant treatment would cost on this tooth? I would be very grateful if you could advise me as to what my best course of restorative treatment would be in your opinion. As well as recommend someone that you find to be a trusted, qualified and very experienced dental implant surgeon to me if this form of dental restoration treatment does turn out to be an option for me. Many thanks for your help

I opted for cosmetic dental surgery nearly 2 years ago to replace 4 front teeth to improve the overall appearance.

Q.
Hi I was wondering you can on advise on my situation? I opted for cosmetic dental surgery nearly 2 years ago to replace 4 front teeth to improve the overall appearance. The method used was CEREC which proved unreliable. After 2 fittings I walked away only to return after 6 months when a fracture appeared on one of the crowns. This was probably a result of my bite and I do recall not being able to bite down fully which I did mention this at the time. A replacement crown was then fitted only to reveal a tooth which far from matched the others. It was then decided to replace all 4 which unfortunatly did not have the appearance one hoped. These were then removed and I was fitted with a porcelain bridge with a result I was finally happy with. Unfortunatly 3 months ago a gap between my top two teeth appeared and has got progressively worse. When the bridges were first fitted make up was applied which has since fallen out and revealed these gaps. Even breathing in can cause discomfort which I assume suggests that the actual teeth are exposed and open to decay? I contacted my dentist today who to be fair has said he will do everything in his power to correct the problem. My concern is I have started to doubt his ability and to be honest I’m not sure I want to go through the entire process for a 5th time which has been a huge inconvenience. He said today that the problem appears to come only from the makeup which will be a simple fix. My concern is if he is thinking of applying make up again surely this is only a temporary fix to an ongoing problem? I was wondering if you have heard of anyone experiencing such problems in the past. Is this down to poor training, equipment or could it be me! The dentist I choose recently opened the cosmetic surgery in addition to a number of standard practices so is certainly not new to this. Any advice you can give on my circumstance would be greatly appreciated. I am keen to get this resolved and would like to return with a professional opinion. Thanks

Can I save my half broken upper tooth, else what are the alternatives

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009
Q.
Hi, I have a small broken (upper) tooth that has nearly half missing. It doesn’t hurt. Not long ago a dentist suggested it be pulled, but it is visible when I smile and I do not want an obvious gap. Is there anything I can do to save it? And if not, what is available to fill the gap? Thank you.

i have been advised that for some reason a conventional bridge wouldn’t work, but someone recomended a Maryland bridge

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009
Q.
Hi there. At the moment i have a single top denture with a couple of teeth at the side and one tooth which is near the front. With this being a single tooth it has broken a couple of times as the joint is so delicate and i have had to have it repaired. At the moment i am having it repaired again as a crack has appeared accross the joint.I am so aware of this problem that i try to avoid biting on it which is difficult, and there are times when on my own that i take the denture out when i eat. If i don’t wear it i am very self concious of the gap with it being near the front. I am looking for a replacement where i can confidently bite and eat on it with not being afraid that it will break off. I am aware that an implant would solve the problem but i am also aware that they are very expensive. Could you give me some advice on this please, i have been advised that for some reason a conventional bridge wouldn’t work, but someone recomended a Maryland bridge. Would this be strong enough to give me confidence to eat and bite on it? I look forward to your advice. Regards

The abcess is back and I have been told to have a bridge to replace my two front teeth

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009
Q.
I have had 3 apiesectomies for an abcess above a front crown. The last operation was in hospital and my gum line has been ruined above one crown making my tooth look longer than the other and also showing the terrible black line. The abcess is back and I have been told to have a bridge to replace my two front teeth. I am concerned about the supporting teeth being crowned and getting another abcess also will a bridge be able to level out my uneven gumline

I am wondering if it is advisable to have all these broken teeth removed and be placed by a bridge or implants. Are these available on NHS?

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009
Q.
I am a somewhat healthy 22yo female. I do have a fair few broken teeth at the back of my mouth with i am susceptable to infections from. I am in the process of getting this fixed by my dentist. I am wondering if it is advisable for me to have these all removed and be replaced by a bridge or implants? The back 3 on either side, along the bottom are cracked and only a slight bit of the tooth is left. In this case, seen as there is no other option but for the teeth to be removed would i be able to get implants or a bridge placed on the NHS? Would i be best going to a dental hospital for this procedure? Thank you
