I am 64 and my gums are shrinking

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008
Q.
I am 64 and my gums are shrinking and I am noticing a gap which looks as if I have food stuck between my gum and my tooth – this is becoming embarrassing and I was wondering if there was a procedure to correct this – or like the aching joints something I have to put up with! I don’t have any dentures. thank you for your help.

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008
Q.
Is it possible to have porcelain veneers removed and then to have your teeth whitened? My teeth are discoloured due to tetracycline and the veneers were put on approximately 20 years ago. I have six veneers on my upper teeth. Thanks

I had two implants fitted about 6 months ago

Monday, November 10th, 2008
Q.
Hi I had two implants fitted about 6 months ago. Today one has come out (it looks like a screw so i assume it is the actual implant?). Apart from what feels like a big hole in my gum i have no pain. My main concearn is that i am 5 weeks pregnant & dont want to do anything that may depardise my pregnancy. My dental practise is closed & i dont want to call the emergency number unecessarily. Your advise would be greatly appreciated.

Monday, November 10th, 2008
Q.
My 18 yr old son as had his front tooth kicked out is he to young to have a implant? A dentist as suggested a bridge. I beleive the 2 teeth next to the front will need to be be trimmed down? Will this not make his teeth look odd if he does decide to have a implant later on in life. Thanks

So my teeth are fine except for two of them

Saturday, November 8th, 2008
Q.
So my teeth are fine except for two of them. One is chipped and one is somewhat twisted and has always been. went to the dentist not long ago to get a cap on the chipped tooth, but because its the same tooth on the other side thats on an angle he suggested i either get that tooth surgically straightened or get a cap for that one to. the only thing is i dont want them to hack away at my tooth to put a cap on if its not really necessary and theres other things available to help that. how much would it cost to have one tooth surgically straightened. (please dont answer braces are the solution like a lot of the other doctors have suggested no way!)

my dentist suggested that i start with invisalign

Thursday, November 6th, 2008
Q.
Hiya, my dentist has just suggested that i start with invisalign. at a cost of almost £3000. i’m 19 and currently unemployed so that is a huge cost to me. I have some sort of problem (which i will be seeing a doctor about asap) which means i cannot breath through my nose very well so i tend to breath through my mouth and have done as long as i can remember. i have been told that this is the reason for the dental problems i have. i have a narrow top jaw which caused 2 of my teeth (the ones either side of my 2 front teeth) to come through behind the front ones. i had orthodontic treatment beginning with an expandable retainer from age 10 (i was made fun of because i couldnt talk around it so i often took it out) after some time i then had fixed braces which for a while had a spring in the roof of my mouth in order to expand it a little more i think. after just under a year with those on (the elastic band kind) they were removed and i had lovely straight teeth…. for about 2 weeks, maybe a month before the two offending teeth began to move back again i had another chunky plastic/wire retainer which i did wear and my orthodontist reduced the time i had to wear it towards the end of my treatment (every other day… just nights etc) my teeth now are nowhere near as bad as they were originally, i just have a slight crossbite involving those two teeth, but i really wish they were straight again. i saw in one of your other answers about permenant retainers, like a wire stuck behind the teeth to prevent them moving, my cousin in america has one of those and i always thought i should have had that done too since my teeth had moved so drastically and i feared they’d be more likely to move back. i was never offered the option to have a permenant retainer else i surely would have gone for it. should i have been? i also wonder if the breathing problem may have had some impact on whether or not my teeth moved after treatment? is £3000 (i think it might have been £2800 but even so) a reasonable price for my treatment and is it worth doing or will my teeth just move again? i do hope you can offer some guidance, many thanks.
