Is It Safe To Place A 5-Year-Old Child Under General Anaesthetic?

Friday, July 26th, 2013
Q.

Hi, I am writing for the problem of my 5-year old daughter’s tooth. Her tooth is decayed and had an infection over this tooth (swelling). I took her to the local dentist. She gave an injection there and immediately started to pull off the tooth. My daughter was screaming with the pain and I had to ask the dentist to stop it. It seemed to me that the anaesthetic didn’t work because she was screaming too much. Anyway, the dentist gave an antibiotic and my daughter took it almost a week. The swelling decreased then, but did not completely go away. I took her to another dentist because my daughter was not ready to go to the first one. I told the new dentist about the history. My daughter was scared on seeing the dentist and was not ready to open the mouth for a while. The dentist said he don’t want to take the tooth and it is better to go to a clinic where they will do general anesthesia and will extract the tooth.
My question: is it safe to do this in a 5-year old child? Is there any risk? Would it give any problem in future (affecting the development of brain)?
I would be very grateful for the answer. Thank you very much in advance.

I’m scared of injections, is there an alternative?

Monday, May 23rd, 2011
Q.

I have a top jaw tooth that has left the gum and is loose also the next tooth to it is a crown on a pin is also loose but not as much movement as the big tooth I took many years to get over my childhood fears of a dentist and have for a long time gone for checkups and hygenist visits twice a year. My dentist has said I would need a roof ingection for the extraction. I would like to know if there is any other way these teeth can be removed as I still remember the pain of this injection for another tooth a few years ago, and can not convince myself it will be different this time. hoping for some advice how to cope with this i.e. could I have a general I am 63 years old, and on blood pressure tablets.

Is it normal to have no sensation in my teeth and bruised nostrils following preparation for veneers?

Thursday, December 2nd, 2010
Q.

Hi

I’m having veneers done. I had 6 of my top front teeth prepared last week and I now have temporarys in my mouth.

I feel like they are still numb. Its concerning me a lot. I tap on them and can’t feel a thing. If I tap on my other teeth I can feel the sensation. I also feel no sensitivity whatsoever in my prepped teeth.

It’s literally like when you’d wear a gum shield and tap on your teeth through them. That’s the sensation I have.

Is this normal? and will I get the feeling back?

Also, when I flare my nostrils they feel bruised.

Can a tooth be completely numbed before a root canal treatment?

Friday, November 26th, 2010
Q.

My dentist says I need some root canal work on a tooth that aches when I eat. She had drilled out the decay, nearly down to the root, but it still hurts, hence the root canal work. I had 1 injection for the filling, but I still nearly had to ask her to stop, as the pain was so bad. (My last dentist used to give me 2 injections for a filling, & it still used to hurt). I really dislike the idea of root canal work, can the tooth really be numbed enough for this work to take place? Any help would be much appreciated.

What anaesthetic options are available for fillings, specifically root canals?

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010
Q.
I have an extremely sensitive rear molar that needs a filling. The last time two lots of injections didn’t deaden the pain during the drilling. What else can be done to reduce pain? If I need a root canal on this, can I not be knocked out so I don’t feel a think until I wake up?,

Is my tooth infected or is it decaying?

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010
Q.
Hi I had the last molar on my right side extracted just over 2 weeks ago and the extraction site is healing fine. Up until a few days ago I was finding it hard to brush the molar next to it but now I can without pain.. I was worried about decay at the back of this tooth so I used a mirror to check it and noticed it was slightly stained, upon feeling it with my finger I felt a sharp pain when my nail touched a certain part of the tooth. Could it be infected or decaying or is this normal due to the extraction?? I also have a small silver filling in the tooth so could this be a factor in causing the pain?? Please help as I am extremely freaked out and worried!,
