Pros and cons of Lumineers or Veneers?

Q.
Hi, I have taken interest in enhancing my smile lately and I thought about getting either Lumineers or Veneers. What I am curious to know what is 1. What is the difference between them both? 2.Which proceedure is more safe, easier and time efficient? 3. Which last longer? and finally 4.Which is more expensive?

Hi

Thanks for your questions. Lumineers are usually done without any preparation of the teeth, which is good in terms of being conservative to tooth structure but it usually means the veneers are not as natuarally aesthetic as more conventional veneers. Also Lumineers generally only work well in certian situation, such as the teeth being small, and normally a minimum of 8-10 teeth have to be done for them to blend in with the smile. If suitable and with reasonable expectations in terms of the natural look of the result, they are often safer for the teeth, easier and more time efficient.

If the goal is to make the teeth look slightly smaller, or if bite changes need to be made then Lumineers will not work

More conventioanl veneers however require toth reduction, in most cases , to achieve a great result. However they are normally far superior in terms of the aesthetic result, than Lumineers.

In both cases the quality of the result will depend very much on the skill and expertise of both the dentist and the dental technician who carries out the work

Conventional veneers (in the right hands) in my expereince generally last longer but that can vary deopending on the bite

Lumineers are generally cheaper but do not deliver the aesthetic excellence that high quality veneers , made by a master technician, can deliver

Hope that helps?
