My Canines Are Too Big. I Don’t Feel Comfortable Laughing Or Smiling. Is There A Cheaper Alternative To Braces Which Could Help Me?

Friday, March 21st, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Moore, hopefully you can help me. I have two big teeth (my canines). It makes me feel very uncomfortable to laugh and grin when taking photos. Can they be made smaller? If so, what is the name of the procedure and how much will it cost? Also because my canines are so big, my lateral incisors are very small. Can they be made bigger? So overall I have a nicer smile? I don’t want to wear braces so I’m asking you if there is a different and cheaper alternative?

I’ve Just Got Veneers 5 Months Ago And I’m Hearing A Popping Sound. Have You Ever Heard Of This Problem Before?

Wednesday, February 26th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Mark, I have several new veneers – top front. They were fitted 5 months ago and I’m hearing little sounds and getting a slight feeling like pressure in those veneered teeth before I hear the sound. Almost like a pop. My dentist checked my jaw and also tried to see if the veneers were loose but they are stuck on. They were x-rayed too and the only thing was a black area under one veneer which the dentist said was probably a thicker bit of the cement. The noise is definitely from my veneered teeth and I didn’t have it with my old veneers only my new ones. I notice the sounds mainly after I’ve had soup or coffee or brushed my teeth but not only then. It’s really puzzling and my dentist is at the point where he has run out of ideas for what is causing this. Have you ever heard of this kind of problem with veneers?

What Treatment Do Celebrities Use To Get Such White Smiles?

Tuesday, February 25th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Moore, it’s probably a really common question but how do celebrities achieve such white smiles? I’ve had a laser treatment on my teeth before which seems to be the only whitening treatment available and I didn’t really see much difference? I would rather get teeth whiter than my natural teeth than restore their natural whiteness, but I assume you’d have to have a full set of veneers or something more drastic to achieve this? Hopefully you can give me some good ideas on how to achieve this. Thanks.

Monday, February 24th, 2014
Q.

Hi Andrew. My teeth are overcrowded which I feel is down to my wisdom teeth and my tooth right of my front teeth which protrudes greatly. It means that I take a bad photo when smiling. I want to have them fixed but would like to know an approx cost, as I know every patient is different. Please can you give me some information as I really do not know what I need but do and I do not want to get stung for something that is too expensive, many thanks.

Can I Get Veneers On The NHS As My Teeth Get Me Down And I Don’t Smile A Lot?

Tuesday, February 11th, 2014
Q.

Hi Andrew. My teeth are slack, some are broken and others have holes in them. Can I get veneers on the NHS as it gets me down and I don’t smile a lot? Whenever I eat I get pain in my teeth and I have dentures, do I need my own teeth to have veneers? All of my bottom teeth are my own and a few of the ones on the top set. Most are either rotten decaying or slack, I do feel as though it would boost my confidence greatly and also my self esteem. Any advice you can offer me would be greatly received. Thanks.

Is There Any Treatment To Enhance The Look Of Your Teeth If You Have Gum Disease?

Tuesday, February 11th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Moore. Is there any treatment to enhance the look of your teeth if you have gum disease? My gums are shrinking due to an inherited condition. My teeth look okay but as time goes by it’s starting to look like there are holes between my teeth at the top near the gum. I am 53 and have a huge fear of false dentures.
I have never smoked but I drink socially.
I clean my teeth twice a day
I visit a NHS dentist regularly for scaling and polishing. I would just like to my teeth to look healthy. I hope you can suggest something that could help me. Thank you.

My Temporary Veneers Are Way Too Bulky For My Liking. Will The Permanent Ones Be Like This?

Thursday, February 6th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Moore, I just got 6 temporary veneers on my front teeth, (they all had gaps) they look so fake and bulky. They look like a denture to me or a mouth piece you wear for sports. I can barely talk and forget about eating. I feel like a horse and look like one as well. They make me have a lot of saliva and my teeth look big and plastic. Will my permanent teeth look like this, my front teeth feel like I’m buck toothed and I can’t talk very well. Is this normal? I have already gone back to the dentist after one day and they said I won’t have this issue with the permanent veneers, they said it’s because I have one piece on my front teeth, I just don’t know what to believe and I’m stressed out already. What should I do?

Hello, Dr. Moore! Please Tell Me If There Is A Non-Surgical Way To Bring My Upper Set Forward And Down?

Wednesday, February 5th, 2014
Q.

Hello, Dr. Moore!
Please tell me if there is a non-surgical way to bring upper teeth forward and down? I feel like my teeth are sort of too deep in my mouth. And when I open my mouth all you can see is my lower teeth (probably because they are retro-clined) and no upper teeth. I want that changed. I was thinking, if I got braces and it tilted my lower teeth outwards to fix the position of my retro-clined teeth that would cause a slight under-bite and could be treated with elastics. But the question is would the elastics actually bring upper teeth forward or lower teeth backward to fix the underbite?
I would really want to push my teeth out at least a little bit and bring upper teeth down because I love smiling so much but when I sometimes see photos of my smile I think I should stop.

I Would Like To Have My Veneers Removed Before I Have The Six Month Smiles Treatment. Will This Be Possible?

Thursday, January 30th, 2014
Q.

Hi there Mark,
I have had two veneers (on the teeth either side of my front teeth) for almost 15 years. They are not porcelain but are very old, stained and I have not been happy with them for a very long time. I am seriously thinking of the six month smile programme. I have my first consultation with my dentist next week. I am suddenly concerned though, would the dentist be happy to take these veneers off? My teeth were not changed in any way underneath to fit the veneers. I would just love to have them removed so that my own teeth could fitted with the brace. Is this possible?

Do I Need A Softer Night Guard To Protect My Brand New Gorgeous Veneers?

Thursday, January 30th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Moore. Last year I had a hard acrylic night guard for my bottom set of teeth as I grind my teeth and recently I got my gorgeous upper veneers fitted.  My question is, should I continue to wear the hard mouth guard or get fitted for a softer one? I am concerned that my grinding against the hard plastic can wear down my new veneers.

I grind with my back teeth and not the front but it still worries me that the hard acrylic may harm my new teeth. Your help is much appreciated.
