Do I Need A Softer Night Guard To Protect My Brand New Gorgeous Veneers?

Q.
Hello Dr Moore. Last year I had a hard acrylic night guard for my bottom set of teeth as I grind my teeth and recently I got my gorgeous upper veneers fitted.  My question is, should I continue to wear the hard mouth guard or get fitted for a softer one? I am concerned that my grinding against the hard plastic can wear down my new veneers.

I grind with my back teeth and not the front but it still worries me that the hard acrylic may harm my new teeth. Your help is much appreciated.

Thanks for getting in touch. It shouldn’t really harm the veneers but get your dentist to check the bite with it in just in case. It’s important to get these questions out of the way before such treatments go under way. I would advise you to make a list of all the things you would like to say prior to visiting the dentist, so you have a clear idea in your mind of the things you would like to ask. Like I said however, your veneers should be fine, ask your dentist if you would like further peace of mind. Kind regards, Dr Andrew Moore.
