Can chipped dental crown be restored?

Monday, January 18th, 2010
Q.
Hi there, I have a front crown thats chipped and theres a little piece missing. I don’t have the funds to redo another crown by private dentistry. Was wondering if the missing part that is chipped can be restored with filling material or something?,

I am unhappy with veneers treatment received abroad

Thursday, January 14th, 2010
Q.
Hello I recently had veneers fitted on my front 4 teeth in India however I am not happy with them. They feel too big for my mouth and I feel like they stick out further than my teeth should. They are much bigger than my original teeth Although if necessary I will pay for new veneers I was wondering if there is any other solution you could suggest? Many Thanks,

Is there a cheap orthodontic option?

Thursday, January 14th, 2010
Q.
Hello, I have had 2 consultations now regarding orthodontic treatment with 2 different dentists. I have been told that what i want to achieve is a minor case. But clearstep or invisalign are coming out very expensive and fixed braces a little less. Could a minor case not be treated with a removable appliance to reduce cost, or are there and other alternatives at a lower cost? Many Thanks,

Has bone graft failed?

Thursday, January 14th, 2010
Q.
Hello, I had a bone graft to UL1-3 area 10 days ago, however the site doesnt seem to be healing properly as i can see material beacuse the gum is not closed. My dentist seem to think that gum will pull with time but my concern is how is it possible for gum to pull when there is such a big gum and nothing seem pulling it at the moment as stiches that holded two parts of gum came off. DO you think it is a good idea to stitch the gum again or shall i wait when it heels properly? I am just worried that the gum wont close on its own and bone graft will fail. Please advise. Thanks!!,

Dentist recommended brace-hooks for fang tooth but I am unsure

Thursday, January 14th, 2010
Q.
i had full traintracks when i was 15 – i had a “fang” tooth which decided to divert itself to grow out through my pallet, so i underwent an op to have a small section removed so the tooth could be fully seen, and a retainer (up in the pallet) to pull it down, and then have braces – i had these removed just before my 17th birthday, and was given “invisalign” type retainers – the ones that slot over the teeth instead of up into the pallet. however, i used these for many months, having to go back to the hospital to have the orthadontic to remould my mouth and make me up a set to wear. the first set shrunk in the dental cleanser, and the second set wore away againt the tooth which had been dragged across to the rightful place. at 18, it got the the point where the retainer would not just snugly fit, it would put strain on all my teeth, making it difficult to eat as they were so tender. after 4 more years of no retainer, the tooth has moved back slowly to about half a centimetre from the same line all my top teeth follow, making a dark dip in my smile. not only that, the tooth has been wearing away against my lower teeth, and has caused my jaw to sit slightly to the left, to accomodate the “fang” tooth that wont stay! what would you consider for me to get this tooth back to the front, and not cause me any more agro? iv seen my dentist who has offered me a retainer with brace-hooks attached to some of the surrounding teeth to pull it forward, but there is no guarantee this will fit in the space as the teeth have moved, and could cause even more shift from the surrounding teeth. help! please!,

Can I get teeth shaved to a more aesthetically pleasing angle?

Thursday, January 14th, 2010
Q.
Dear Dr Bohara, Perhaps you can offer me some advice? When I was 8, I knocked the tip off of one of my top front centre teeth. The other one is slightly long, but this looks even more pronounced by the chipped one next to it. Now, Im no dentist (obviously haha), but if you could get a big file and make the front 4 teeth all the same length, it’d be perfect and I’d be over the moon. Putting an angle grinder in my mouth seems a bit extreme, so I’d be interested to hear what you can suggest. Also, what would I expect to pay for this in the UK? I am in Dundee in Scotland Thank you very much indeed for any advice you can offer me! Kindest regards,

Will root canal treatment be necessary?

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010
Q.
I’m 33 yrs male living in India. I’ve a bad toothless smile due to deep bite. I’ve no functional problems but my upper teeth are not revealed while smiling which makes me look toothless like a geriatric. I visited a dentist (he’s an endodontist and not a cosmetic dentist) & he has ruled out orthodontics without jaw surgery. But he has suggested crowning 8 of my upper front teeth (including incisors and canines). But he insists on root canaling them since most of the tooth structure would be removed in order to bring about the cosmetic effect. I had a second opinion & this dentist says that root canaling perfectly healthy teeth is a bad idea since root canaled teeth will eventually have to be extracted after 10-15 years. He says that I can have crowns without root canal. The first dentist says that properly done root canals can last a lifetime and in case of any problems later on, root canals can always be redone. He has promised 60-70% of the cosmetic effect that I expect. Now what I’d like to know is: 1. Will crowning bring about the desired cosmetic effect? 2. Will root canaled teeth have to be eventually extracted? 3. Will root canals be redone through the crowns or by removing the crowns and putting them back? 4. After crowns, will I lose any functionality? I badly want to improve my smile which is a great setback in my career and social functioning. Please advise. Thanks and sorry for the lengthy description.,

Tooth looks grey

Thursday, January 7th, 2010
Q.
Okay so first of all I had a filling replaced on my front tooth, then I noticed it was really hard to floss because the filling was bulkier than before and I felt constant pressure. So I returned to the dentist and he said I needed a root canal, and we did a root canal. during this whole process my tooth has moved back slightly, which he was not too concerned with, but today :’( I just noticed it’s slightly grey. I am in my early thirties and getting married in June, I cannot have a grey tooth!!!!!! Is it possible the dentist is at fault….it was only after he worked on it that it shifted and is now turning grey. What are my options for fixing?,

Can my teeth be straightened without braces?

Monday, January 4th, 2010
Q.
Oh my i cannot believe i am actually doing this as i am petrified of dentists and have had numerous bad experiences!!! But here goes…i am 35yrs old and when i was younger i had many teeth out due to over crowding and what a nightmare (one i will never forget or have forgot) anyway i had to wear braces for a long time and when they came out was never offered a retainer (didn’t even know about them). My teeth are crooked and i would love to have a beautiful smile as i feel ugly because of my teeth and always smile with my mouth closed, i have had consultations where i have been told i should have braces and i have a slight over bite. I don’t know which way to turn and really can’t face wearing braces again. I really don’t know which way to turn and dream of having a lovely smile. Any advice would be grateful…Please and thankyou.,
