My Father’s Dentures Are Causing Him Extreme Pain, Can We Arrange Treatment?

Tuesday, April 9th, 2013
Q.

I’m making this inquiry on behalf of my father who is petrified of the dentist and has not been for years. His teeth are getting so bad it’s affecting his life, he can’t eat, is in pain and is more to the point very embarrassed about it all, I can’t talk to him about it as he just goes very quiet but it’s making him miserable and us along with him, I feel if I find the right solution for him then he will make the move and get his teeth sorted out once and for all but I don’t know who to turn to? His whole top layer are false dentures which are ill fitted and he needs at least a new set of those but his bottom teeth he can’t even brush they are that sore, I can not imagine the daily pain he is putting up with but I want to help him (they could need all taking out) I need someone to help us and give us the options, he has had a lot of trouble with his teeth since being 13 years old having smashed his teeth on the ice (hence the dentures) so he has several problems around fear, pain, embarrassment etc, please could you help or point me in the right direction, cost is not the issue it’s getting him happy again.

Kind regards.

What Should I Do If I’ve Cracked The Post Of My Crown

Thursday, April 4th, 2013
Q.

Hi Dr. Moore
I had a crown fitted with post (a short post, apparently) some seven years ago on my large upper front incisor.
I recently bit down hard on a tiny piece of chicken bone (not knowingly!), suffering pain and very slight forward displacement of tooth.
Visited local walk in Teaching Hospital and X-Ray showed that the post was broken, with the crown intact.
There is slight movement to tooth, no constant pain and no signs of infection.
My questions;
1. Is it possible to replace post and/or crown
2. Will I lose the tooth
3. What are the chances of infection and further damage
4. What are my options
Regards.

My Veneers Have A Gap Between Them And The Gum Line, Can I Get Free Treatment?

Tuesday, April 2nd, 2013
Q.

Hi I have veneers on my top front 4 teeth, my gums are receding as I’m now 44, the veneers are showing a gap at the top, I’m a single parent with no savings & am unable to work as I am a carer for my elderly mum
When I was young I had several traumatic experiences at the dentist,so I didn’t go as often as I should & never looked after them properly – all that considering they’re not that bad – what I would like to do is whiten my teeth & have my veneers replaced, I never have photos taken as I hate my teeth – I have asked my dentist if I can have the veneers replaced & I’ll pay for the whitening, but apparently it’s not possible on the NHS as its cosmetic – is they’re anywhere I could be used to be practiced on, without paying? Or are there any other solutions? I am desperate – luckily my 2 teenage children have beautiful teeth & no fear of the dentist! Please help.

I Have A Rare Condition, Can I Get Free NHS Treatment?

Thursday, March 28th, 2013
Q.

I was just wondering if there was a treatment i could get done on the NHS for my teeth. I have a rare condition where i have no second teeth i am now 32 years old and as you can imaging my first set of teeth are in bad shape now,i can not afford to pay the fees it would cost to get them all fixed. With having this condition i was wondering if i would be eligible for free treatment. I have many teeth missing and the ones left are causing me a lot of pain and also i’m very conscious of the way it makes me look i find it very hard to eat certain foods as again it causes me pain i would be very grateful for any information or advice you could give me on this matter.

My Personal Problems Meant That I Neglected My Teeth, How Do I Get Them Fixed?

Monday, March 25th, 2013
Q.

Hello doctor, I need some advice as I have been in a severely depressed state of mind and have just been referred back to my GP from the community mental health team. This was an ongoing situation over the last three years +
During this time and before, My teeth were neglected due to my state of mind. Just on the top row I only have 3 good / whole teeth and the rest are either missing or badly broken. My back molars top and bottom were extracted in hospital when I was 7 or 8.
To this day I dont know why.
I am too ashamed to go to a dentist and am wondering – should I go to hospital or see my own GP first. I am just starting to pick up the pieces in life and now have my heart set on being a new person and being able to smile.
I live in Kingston upon Thames, London. I am 42 and allergic to aspirin and penicillin – Just for reference.
I am eligible for NHS as I am on DLA & ESA and currently not working.
I have suffered from PERICARDITIS for about 6 years now as it is a re-occurring symptom. I am currently on simvastatins for cholestoral. Other medication includes amitryptaline, isosorbide mononitrate, co-dydramol, sertraline, zopiclone (taken rarely). Just to give an insight of my medical history. Hope to hear from you shortly.

Yours Gratefully.

Receding Gums And Bad Teeth, Which Implants Should I Go For?

Friday, March 22nd, 2013
Q.

Hi Dr, I am 62 years old and to be blunt my upper teeth have seen better days! I have receding gums and now since having researched on the internet about the ‘all on 4’ dental implants I am now becoming a bit confused as to which is the better option for me, ‘all on 4’, or the 6 implants treatment option that I have seen. This is because some say that 6 implants will support the arch better and last longer. Also I understand that the 6 implants comes with a ceramic arch with zirconia better than acrylic or do you know of any better materials in use currently for constructing the arch. If it is any help to your accuracy in answering my questions I would like to make it clear that I am looking for something that will last for a very long time and look very good.

Are there any alternatives to false teeth for someone with progressively receding gums?

Monday, March 18th, 2013
Q.

Hello, I wonder if you could advise how do you deal with a person who has progressively receding gums and does not want to have dentures? I am 56 and one of my teeth at the front is already quite loose where my gum has receded so badly, I also have crowns at the top. All I can remember of my mums teeth from being a young girl is that she used to take them out every night and they looked false, just like the name. Help, I don’t want the same. Thanks

Is there any treatment I can get for badly receding gums caused by overzealous brushing?

Monday, March 18th, 2013
Q.

Hello
I am fifty two years old and have never smoked or drunk in my life. I have got badly receding gums apparently due to the wrong type of brushing I have been doing. My teeth are very sensitive and they feel loose.I am scared that they are going to fall out.I have regular check ups at my dentist but he just says that it is my own fault for brushing too vigorously and that there is nothing that I can do.I was wondering if this is correct or if there are any procedures to stop the gums from getting any worse. If so could you possibly give me a rough idea of costs and where I could get any treatment. Many thanks
