Will I be refused braces as my gums are receding

Q. I am seeing my dentist on Tuesday about getting braces and also because my gums are bleeding when I floss (I have only just started flossing due to crowded lower teeth). I also have some gum recession on my bottom lower tooth which is protuding outwards quite a lot. I receive treatment under the nhs and am wondering if there is anything that can be done about the gum receeding under nhs? Also will I be refused barces as my gums are bleeding or because of gum recession?

A. Ideally, you will need to stabilise your gums first.
Bleeding gums is the first signs of gingivitis. Your gums blled because they are inflamed/reacting to plaque on your teeth. Try NOT to avoid the areas that bleed when brushing. Instaed, use it as an indicator as to where you need to concentrate better with your brushing. I would advise a hygienist visit for a good scale and polish- where you will be shown good brushing and flossing techniques.
Braces is a good option to correct this protruding tooth. I’m sure your dentist will advise you further- or refer you to an orthondontist to discuss your options. good luck.
