Can Anything Be Done To Increase The Appearance Of My Gums? I’m Extremely Paranoid About Smiling.

Friday, October 24th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. I have receding gums and it seems to be getting worse. I’m extremely paranoid about smiling and showing my teeth. So my question is: Can anything be done to increase the appearance of my gums as opposed to all of my teeth and what would I be looking at cost wise? I have already lost one of my back teeth through my gums being so weak and my dentist advises me that I will lose more teeth if I do not have something sorted. They have also advised that I will struggle to hold dentures as my gums are very small, I’m only 32 and would like to prevent my teeth from falling out anyway I can. Thank you.

My NHS Dentist Doesn’t Answer My Questions Regarding Gum Grafts. What Are My Options?

Monday, August 4th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Moore. I have gum recession which is moderately bad on my bottom middle two teeth but less so on the surrounding few. I also have it moderately bad on one tooth on my top row. It has been caused by overaggressive brushing but I have now learnt how to brush properly, I was thinking of having a gum graft and was wondering what my options are? My current NHS dentist doesn’t really answer my questions and seems keen on just giving me sensitive toothpaste and putting fluoride on the areas affected. Why is this? Thank you.

My Gums Are Receding From Every Tooth. Is It Possible To Have A Gum Graft For Such A Large Area?

Monday, May 12th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes. I am having terrible trouble with my gums receding. It started about 10 years ago but with dental treatment it stopped at a level I could cope with but in the last few months it has started up again and now I would say my gums have receded from every tooth and worse of all this morning my top two teeth now have a small gap between them. I am currently on anti-biotics. I have been reading up on gum graphs but is this possible for such a large area? This is badly affecting my life now as I am losing my self-confidence in public and I hate to smile. I hope you can advise me on what to do? Thank you for your time.

My Gums Shrank Considerably And Now I Look 5 Years Older. Can Anything Be Done To Bring Back My Youthful Appearance?

Tuesday, May 6th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. I am a young looking 65 year old.
My dentist misjudged my gums while
preparing them for 8 span bridge he was having made for me. He removed too much and as a result I needed to have a crown lengthening. My gums
shrank considerably after I was healed.
I now look at least 5 years older than I
did before the surgery. Can anything be done to bring back my youthful
appearance? Should I reporting him
to the peer review board? Thank you. I look forward to your reply.

I Am Nervous Around Dentists And Require Cosmetic Treatments, How Can You Help Me?

Friday, August 30th, 2013
Q.

I am a nervous patient and do not like going to the dentist. I always had six monthly check ups and once a year for many years. I have not been to the dentist for around two years now due to not having any money, loss of work etc. I need a gum graft in my lower tooth in the front. The gum started to recede around 5 years ago and has not been mentioned by the dentists I have visited. The dentists said that if it got worse it may need to be looked at. I have a lot of fillings but they have been good and given me no trouble and beside this I have been lucky with my teeth, now I am getting older I noticed a few problems. I have a loose wisdom tooth, not giving me any trouble but, I’m too worried to go to the dentist. Could this be done at the same time as a gum graft? Would I be able to be completely pull it out, if so how long would it take? I am frightened to let anyone touch the tooth because I do not want it to fall out. I would need to book somewhere for the night after treatment or can I get the train back? What is the cost? Would I be able to have it done in November and how many times would I need to come and see you after treatment?

Can I have cosmetic dental work to cover my exposed roots?

Tuesday, November 6th, 2012
Q.

Hi, I have previously had gum disease. It’s better now as it has been treated, but my teeth are exposed at the root. Can any cosmetic dental work help improve the appearance of my teeth? My teeth are quite small too. I have looked at veneers, but I don’t think this would help me as the problem is at the root with the gum?

Also, are there any payment plans that could help me with the cost of this?

Thanks

One of my roots is exposed due to my recent implant placement, how can I protect it from further exposure?

Thursday, August 16th, 2012
Q.

hi, I don’t know who to talk to about this so my problem is that one of my roots of one of my teeth has been exposed partially as a result of a bit of an unfortunate incident with a dental implant placement (next to it). This happened in the upper jaw tooth number 4. How can i protect the root from further exposure? Would bonding or resin be suitable? what would be other methods to protect it? As it is a side effect of the surgery I would expect the dental surgeon to cover the cost so do not have to be very tight I would imagine It is just 3 mm long exposure but it does not look very nice and i had the implant done to improve my smile

Are gum grafts the best option for my gum disease?

Monday, July 11th, 2011
Q.

Hi, Im 34 and I have severe gum disease especially on my front bottom teeth the gum no longer fills in between the teeth and I have been told I have lost a bit of bone there as well. Apparently the gum disease is hereditary and I also used to smoke but I gave this up when the dentist told me if I smoked anymore then I would have no teeth left by the time I got to her age.

I am starting to get really conscious of this now, what are my options? I have heard of gum grafts could this help me?
Thanks

Want veneers replaced and need implants. How can I be sure of the right dentist?

Monday, May 16th, 2011
Q.

I would like to have the 2 veneers replaced on my front teeth. Both natural teeth have silver fillings which now give a grey impression. My veneers are about 15 years old though.

Also I have a missing tooth (top right) and beside that I have a temporary crown (and bridge). The problem is my gum has receded and I would like a skin graft to resolve this. So I also need an implant & crown .

This treatment will be a huge investment for me as the cost will be high. How can I be certain of finding the right dentist & being happy with the results?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Thursday, September 30th, 2010
Q.
my gums are receded very far but i am not feeling any sensitivity to hot or cold liquids or anything like that but can your gums receed so far that it would be impossible to have a gum graft surgery performed successfuly,
