Which whitening treatment is the best for naturally yellow teeth?

Q.
hi, could you tell me which whitening treatment is the best for naturally yellow teeth ? thank you
A.
I would say its not a matter of which treatment is best but which treatment is more suited to you. In-surgery tooth whitening is a very good method to rapidly whiten the teeth, usually on average 8 shades lighter with minimal hassle to you. Customised home kits are a more slow and steady approach. It usually takes around 7-14 nights of wear to get a similar result to in-surgery whitening. However you have total control over how far to whiten the teeth and you can use them in the future if you feel the colour of your teeth has slightly dropped. If you don’t want to whiten them too much reduce the time of wear and if a really white result is desired prolonged wear can be advised. I quite often recommend a combination of both methods. This allows a quick initial result with the in-surgery whitening followed by use of the home kit as a top up and long term maintenance. I find this works well for people who want to whiten their teeth as much as possible.

Dr Andy Stafford

Please could you advise me on the approximate costs on the following. When I was in Thailand I had teeth cleaning that I have not been able to find in the UK. The clinic was very modern and had the latest equipment-can you offer the latest most thorough cleaning techniques? -after a deep clean I would like the most effective whitening you offer Once my teeth are white I would then like a veneer fitted on a single front tooth that is currently capped-what are the approximate costs of these procedures?

Dear Dentist I am really confused, can you tell me with regards to teeth whitening is it possible that a high % can traumatze your teeth/enamel if you have sentitive teeth? What is the difference does a high percentage have a high ph? will it do more damage? What really is the best way to whiten. I went to my dentist and they gave me a high percentage 27% I wasn’t too bad but I ahve it in my head that I have damaged my teeth now. As they said its a good idea to combine the two to get better results. Thank you for your time

I hope you are well. I am just enquiring about teeth whitening. I know there is a big range of it on the market but I was wondering which would be the best and have the most permanent results? Also my teeth are in very good health and I have never even had a filling but at times they can become sensitive. Could you mix this condition into the equation and still suggest a good teeth whitener? I would really prefer one with long last results and am ok with higher prices if this is the case. thank you again for your time

Ulises Says :

Tooth whitening is still one of the most unpredictable treatments. The best results are obtained with take home tray whitening products administered by a dentist. Consult with your dentist on what is the best option for you.

Hello there, I have been considering getting my teeth whitened and I understand that there are a number of different systems provided, which would you say is the best and how does it work? Most systems are comparable. There are no side effects from the procedure.

you can a little whitening gel inside your aligners and keep them in over night ask your dentist and only use whitening gels he/ she provides.

Hi I noticed in another post you recommend the Zoom whitening system. I am currently looking to purchase a system but with that many on the market dont know which is best. I am of the understanding that obtaining the best effect is all about which gels you use and the actual laser light doesnt really make much difference..is this correct? Even though the laser is the biggest outlay…so if i was to use Zoom gel but with a cheaper laser do you think this would have just as good an effect? Thanks

I can only go by the results we achieve here at Sparkle Dental Boutique, using the Zoom Advanced Power and patients get very favourable results and it is quick, safe and effective. I cannot comment on another laser. Regards,

My daughter would like to have her teeth whitened and I want to ensure she has this performed by a competent Dentist. She does have a filling in one of her front teeth because she broke this tooth when a child. She is 31 years old and has never had any whitening treatment previously. There does seem to be so many people now who offer teeth whitening, even our local hairdressers has someone who performs this. Can you please advise me how to go about how to find a competent dentist. Thank you for your help.

Unfortunately whitening is unpredictable and you may not be able to achieve such a change. The best whitening products are take home whitening with trays and gel administered by a dentist.

Jaida Says :

i’ve heard you can mix invisalign and whitening treatment is this true? Is it completely safe both straightening and whitening at the same time? and would I continue whitening my teeth throughout the treatment or just towards the end? thank you for your advice

September 16th, 2011 at 08:47 PM
Estefania Says :

Hi Yes you can mix Invisalign and whitening and it is a common treatment and safe. However during Invisalign treatment we often place attachments on the teeth to help move them. You should not whiten the teeth whilst these are in place but before or after they are placed, else the tooth underneath will not whiten.

hello is the best whitening achieved if you have both in practice and at home whitening? And how much of a difference? Im thinking of getting whitening but don’t want to be wasting my money if the difference isnt that much between the two different type of whitening thank you

The most predictable and economical whitening is take home whitening under the supervision of a dentist.

I would very much appreciate any opinion you can give on Kor Tooth Whitening. I have read up on it on the internet and it looks too good to be true. I know it is very new to the UK and only a limited number of dentists are currently ofering it. I wasn’t sure whether this is just because its new or whether its not thought to be proven yet? Do you think it is an improvement on other whitening methods or not? Thank you for your advice.

On a couple of my front teeth I have some white marks (florosis) – I’ve had trays made for bleaching and my teeth are probaly B1 now but they don’t look as white because of the white marks. Also, when bleaching tonight (now using Poladay) a new white spot appeared on another tooth – this never happened before – I had used last year wy10 but wanted a top up. Will I keep getting white marks or will they disappear? Also can cosmetic bonding be done on my two front teeth?

December 16th, 2011 at 08:47 PM
Jarrett Says :

Unfortunately the white spots will continue. Yes, you could have cosmetic bonding to remove the white spots

I have been booked in for a teeth whitening (bleaching) treatment, but my front tooth has a filling on near enough half of it, I’m aware fillings cannot be bleached, so when i have my whitening procedure I’m likely to end with half of a stained tooth while the real half of my tooth brightens, I’m wondering how much around it would cost to resurface the filling on my front tooth, thank you for yous time and effort.

As a guide you’re looking at from £50 to resurface the filling if it does change colour

Thanks

It sounds like a veneer might work better than bleaching. It sounds like a combination of implants to replace the baby tooth and veneers on the remaining teeth might work best.

Hi, I have several fillings( on the upper and lower set) . What I want is to replace with white filling. Is it as good and durable like the amalgam and is it recommended to take my old filling out from the bottom molars(one filling each side). Will it weaken the connection and not be as strong enough? Also do you recommend hydrogen peroxide to whiten teeth? Why does the teeth also become more yeloowish in pigment after teeth whitening over 1-2 years afetr whitening procedure? Is it also possible to put crowns to replace the fillings? Thanks You for your help.

May 2nd, 2012 at 08:47 PM

White fillings or porcelain inlays work well as an alternative to amalgam, teeth get yellow as a result of tea coffee and tobacco staining

hello doctor thorne would i be right in hearing that you can combine invisalign and teeth whitening at the same time?
