Can Healthy Teeth be Taken Out?

Wednesday, February 4th, 2015
Q.

I have had a very expensive bridge attached to a tooth which twice developed an infection/abscess. It cost £1000+. It’s all gone wrong and I didn’t even have it for a year. So now I have another tooth, 4th from the front at the top. It is crumbling and sharp/jagged, the opposite number of the now big gap. I have a teaching role and work in media/sports, so my smile is very important, hence the investment in the failed bridge. My question is: I have six front upper teeth, my lower teeth are sharp, jagged, worn out and crumbling. At what point can I insist that I can have my upper teeth removed to facilitate a top denture? My dentist says he cannot take out healthy teeth or he would be struck off. Your comments would be appreciated.

I Am Really Against Having To Wear Fixed Braces, Should I Get Implants Or Keep My Natural Teeth?

Monday, September 30th, 2013
Q.

Hi, I had orthodontic work in my teens/early 20’s to straighten my teeth. I wore fixed braces for 6 years and had 6 teeth taken out as part of the procedure. I also had a bottom jaw operation to bring my jaw forward as it was believed this was causing my top front teeth to protrude. I wore retainers (top and bottom) for a year afterwards as prescribed. 12 years on and my teeth are relapsing. As an unconfident mid 30’s single female, I am really against having to wear fixed braces (I’ve been told this is the only proper way to fix my problem by several orthodontics) for another 12 -18 months and am now at a point of desperation where I want to have my top 6 front teeth removed and implants put in their place for a quicker and permanent solution as I’m terrified my teeth could relapse AGAIN after having had the work redone. Is this possible or are Cosmetic Dentists against removing healthy teeth?

How to I sort out my badly done porcelain veneers?

Wednesday, September 26th, 2012
Q.

I foolishly rushed into getting 6 porcelain veneers a few years a go. It was at the height of this dental holiday nonsense. I had been in an accident, I was young, and I was desperate to get my smile repaired. I stupidly jumped in to it without looking at what could go wrong.

Anyway, they took away most of my teeth to fit them. I was shocked to when i realised they had done this. They subsequently moved (the veneers)- and i’ve never been happy with them. In-fact far from improving my confidence they have left me very insecure.

I\m really upset, a brace would have been the way to go, but now this is not an option as i don’t have my original teeth.

My question then is, is there anyway that i can have my smile repaired so it looks natural? i actually want it to look just normal, maybe even not perfectly straight. Just a normal smile so i’m not thinking, oh my god i must look like one of those fake simon cowell people everytime i open my mouth.

PLease help. i just need to know there is a solution, it’s really upset me.

And also, how do i know who to go with??

What do you do when your veneers are whiter than your other teeth?

Tuesday, August 16th, 2011
Q.

Hi there,

Please can you help. My mother recently had two front teeth veneers & whitening process. The veneers were done first then the Brightsmile process, however the veneers are now whiter than her natural teeth. They also look more prominent as they are the two front teeth. I seem to think when my dentist did my teeth the whitening process was done first then colour match the veneers – is there a certain way round to do this?

What would you suggest to rectify this problem.
Thanks for any help you can give

Is it at all possible to have teeth whitened if you have a crown?

Friday, December 3rd, 2010
Q.

My question is on behalf of my wife for whom I would like to arrange teeth whitening for her birthday in May.

The problem is that she has a crown on one of her front teeth that has been there for over thirty years.

We have been advised by our own dentist that she would be unable to have her teeth whitened because of the crown.

Can you please advise if this is the case, or is there any dental technique that can overcome this problem?

Is it possible to have dentures that look perfectly real?

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010
Q.

Hi

I was hoping to have full dental implants. Lower implant retained denture and implants on the upper. I have now been told that I have individual implants on the top and also have to have an implant retained denture because I have an overbite and need the lip support.
Is it really possible to have dentures that look like real teeth. If people have to have a crown fitted you can’t tell the difference between that and their own teeth but when you have to have a full denture they don’t seem to look like real teeth. Is it possible to have a denture that is made of porcelain or other material that looks like natural teeth.
As you can probably tell I am getting very distressed about this and I am looking for a new dentist that I can discuss this with and hopefully can do my implants.
I look forward to your response.

Is it possible to have a procedure corrected free of charge if it was not the agreed treatment?

Friday, November 19th, 2010
Q.
I’ve recently (3 days ago) had porcelain veneers on my front two teeth as the bottoms were chipped and the fillings kept breaking off. The dentist fitted porc. veneers as a solution, but filled the gap I didn’t want filled and the teeth are shorter than originally, and now I have a speech impediment as I can’t pronounce the letter F without sounding like Daffy Duck. What are my rights in being able to have these changed at no fee?,
