There is a gap between my fillings and is very painful can you advice?

Friday, October 2nd, 2009
Q.
Dear Dr Moore, I had a filling done between two premolars, and both teeth now have fillings. The problem is that apart from chewing being uncomfortable, they don’t fit well with the bottom teeh and there is now a gap that gets infected and is very painful. I have been back but was not able to find the same dentist and another dentist said that the xray doesn’t show any problem and that everything is fine, but that area between the premolars stings sharply, is itchy and swells up. Looking in the mirror all I can see is that the shape of the teeth is different and they seem bigger. I am very confused and don’t know what to do. How can I get them to look and feel like they used to?

What is the procedure to fix my discoloured white filling?

Saturday, September 26th, 2009
Q.
When I was younger I chipped my tooth so went to my local dentist and they gave me a white filling that was fine until recently when it became discoloured. What is the procedure for fixing this problem? Will the old filling need to be removed and replaced or can this old filling be whitened? I know you will have to treat each case individually but what is the usual procedure? I am currently 16 and have had this filling for about 7 years.

Should my jaw hurt after having amalgam fillings

Friday, September 25th, 2009
Q.
Hi, I had two amalgam fillings yesterday morning, one in an upper left molar and the other in a lower left molar. The top filling was fine but the lower tooth was agony when the dentist drilled and I had to be given a further two injections to make it bearable. Where I had those injections is still very sore and my jaw muscle hurts too much for me to open my mouth wide enough to eat or talk loudly. Should my jaw still hurt this much and why didnt the anaesthetic work? I still have another filling to go but am now too scared to go back.

What can be done to correctly fit an irreplaced crown?

Thursday, September 24th, 2009
Q.
I had a crown on a back molar which did not fit correctly and is in the process of being replaced. I have a dull ache in the tooth area to the rear of the tooth. It is not the throbbing of a regular root canal type pain. An endodontist could not see damage to the nerve or root other than the poorly fitting crown which is now gone and a temporary in place. I am getting intermittent pain but am concerned about getting a root canal as a previou s root canal on a bottom molar left permanent nerve damage. What do you suggest?

How good is to replace old fillings with white fillings

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009
Q.
Hi, I have a filling on either side of my top set of teeth and I feel that they were not done very well. They really stand out against the rest. I would love them to be replaced to look white rather than the grey/black they are at the moment. I wondered what my best course of action might be and whether you could advise me further?

Advice over matching of new and old crowns

Sunday, September 20th, 2009
Q.
I recently broke a piece off a back tooth on which I had root canal treatment a few years ago. Both of my front teeth are crowned and I was also experiencing a little “vibration” in one of them. On visiting my dentist yesterday and after taking x-rays, she says the root canal treatment I had years ago was “incomplete” (it was done at the same practice but by my previous dentist who has now left) but there is no decay so recommends just a crown as there is not enough tooth left to fill. As for the front crown I have an infection for which she is recommending root canal treatment and a new crown. She has quoted me £450 per crown plus £360 for the root canal treatment Initally I thought this sounded very expensive but after a bit of research have accepted these are probably the right prices – however my main concern is that the new crown will match the one next to it? I should be grateful for your opinion on the treatment recommended and the price – and is there a chance they won`t match? Thanks you for your time.

I was wondering if you could help, I have a gap between my front two teeth and am looking to get this closed. I’m also looking to get my teeth whitened but have no idea where to look or how much it would cost? There appear to be many places that offer treatment but How do I know they can be trusted? Many Thanks
