How Can I Help My Wife Get Her Teeth Fixed?

Friday, May 20th, 2016
Q.

Dear Dr Moore, I was wondering if you could advise me on how my wife can become a guinea pig to help have her teeth fixed. 2 years ago my wife had to have many teeth out due to bad dentistry. She was fitted with a denture for top and bottom but had problems with ulcers, this was put down as being a bad fitting plate. My wife had a second lot done and still ends up being very sore and ulcerated, also they have affected her remaining teeth due to being ill fitting again. My wife has since been back to her NHS dentist, explained to them the issues she’s having only to be told yet more teeth may have to be removed and that she maybe allergic to the dentures and that if that the case there’s nothing more they can do. My wife is only 44 and very conscious of her mouth. We were always going for meals and nights out but now she makes excuses to hide herself away, she gets upset if she can’t eat a meal due to having no chewing teeth and her gums being too sore. I am on disability myself with my wife being my carer, my wife will do anything to meet my needs and I myself would love to be able to meet hers, I would love to see her smile a full smile again. I hope you can advise me, kind regards.

Can You Recommend a Good Student Dentist?

Tuesday, May 26th, 2015
Q.

Hi, I really need help with my teeth. All my front crowns are coming off and I find it hard to eat food as I’ve lost my confidence. I’m looking for a student dentist because I haven’t got to much money now. Can you recommend anyone? I did try the NHS  but they don’t seem to want to help. Can you help? My last dentist got struck off. I need new crowns and I have a front tooth missing and maybe some gum disease. Thank you.

My Veneers Have A Gap Between Them And The Gum Line, Can I Get Free Treatment?

Tuesday, April 2nd, 2013
Q.

Hi I have veneers on my top front 4 teeth, my gums are receding as I’m now 44, the veneers are showing a gap at the top, I’m a single parent with no savings & am unable to work as I am a carer for my elderly mum
When I was young I had several traumatic experiences at the dentist,so I didn’t go as often as I should & never looked after them properly – all that considering they’re not that bad – what I would like to do is whiten my teeth & have my veneers replaced, I never have photos taken as I hate my teeth – I have asked my dentist if I can have the veneers replaced & I’ll pay for the whitening, but apparently it’s not possible on the NHS as its cosmetic – is they’re anywhere I could be used to be practiced on, without paying? Or are there any other solutions? I am desperate – luckily my 2 teenage children have beautiful teeth & no fear of the dentist! Please help.

I need, but am unable to afford dental implants, do the NHS provide them?

Monday, November 28th, 2011
Q.

I never had enough adult teeth come through . The 2 teeth either side of my front top ones never grew. As a teenager they fitted me with a brace to pull the teeth there to the side to create 2 spaces big enough for 2 bridges to be fitted with false teeth. 10 years on I am visiting the dentist every couple weeks to have 1 or the other re-cemented in as they keep falling out. The dentist has told me all my other teeth are fine and healthy and recommended either implants or new bridges attached to crowns over the teeth either side. I cant afford either of these. Would they be available on the NHS? IF I keep having my healthy teeth filed down to re-attach my current bridges, I’ll soon end up damaging those teeth permanently.

I have lost most of my teeth but cannot afford the cost of dental work, what can I do?

Monday, October 17th, 2011
Q.

Hi, I am wondering if you know of any places or if people ever do pro bono work. I am 38, have lost almost all my teeth, have barely any gums left and am always having headaches and at times extreme pain due to broken teeth. I never feel good and I believe its due to my mouth. I can barely chew food any more which is causing stomach issues now. i am in the Asheville area of NC and am a mom to a k and a 1st grader and a wife. I dont want to die early and live with this embarrassement anymore cause I know I have a wonderful life to live for. Im so tired of living like this and we dont have money so I havent visited a dentist in probably 20 years. Any ideas or suggestions would be so appreciated

How can I find a NHS dentist that will help me with my dental phobia?

Thursday, November 18th, 2010
Q.
I am 36 and not been to the dentist since i was 13 and had a bad experience over the last 16 years i have really needed to go but been in a controlling relationship and wasnt able to go even if i wanted to luckily he was sent to prison for 6 years just over a year ago now. Since then although i have a really bad phobia i have had to try and force myself to take my 2 kids to a dentist as my phobia and inability to go has caused them needing dental work.Although i have actually managed to walk through the door it is a very uncomfortable feeling and i can not be in the room when they have work done i am just glad my 2 teenagers are braver than me its them seeing if im ok on the way home instead of me being there for them . I need to try and get myself to a dentist but all the ones i come across have just made it even harder for me to see someone. They dont know my history so assume it is just a case of cant be bothered .I know i need all my teeth out as the ones that are left are stumps or rotten and after being basicaly locked in a house fo the last 10 years i also have problems with agrephobia where i find it difficult to actually walk out the house it doesnt make things any easier when i have visable rotten and missing teeth when i talk.I have tried emailing a few places in my local area but to be refered to anywhere that treats phobias and does this sort of work under sedation i am told i will need to be refered by a dentist..if i could find a dentist i was happy with and who understood my fears then i wouldnt be in this situation. I dont know if you work with nhs patients but if you do i would really appreciate some useful advice before i end up a total recluse.

My son is twenty-nine and needs to have all his teeth treated. Would it be better for them to be pulled out?

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010
Q.
my son is 29 he is a great person had substance abuse problems in the past (meth) he has been off drugs for 9 years, he is a musician and has played on the grand ole opry, I spent 2500.00 with a local dentist that did little to fix his bad teeth, my question is would he be better off to have all them pulled as he still has problems, I wrote 100 dentists to see if anyone would donate a complete teeth make over for him since he has great potential in the music industry and not one wrote me back. Can you help please,
