Will I have permanent stains on my teeth once my braces come off?

Monday, September 6th, 2010
Q.
I am 15 years old and have had my braces on for about 2 and a half years, my teeth have straightened out a lot since the start of the treatment but when i first had my braces, i drank a lot of fizzy drinks such as coke, i have stopped drinking them now but i am worried that when my braces come off, that there will be permanent stains inbedded in my teeth. I would like to know if this is a common issue and if there is a way of getting rid of or covering up the stains, Thankyou.,

Is the tooth movement affected if the tooth is restored?

Friday, September 3rd, 2010
Q.
I started with my orthodontic treatment a week before and my upper two teeth have been extracted. now, adjacent to the extracted teeth on the proximal surface of premolar, I noticed a cavity, which is not approaching occlusal surface. I don’t have any sensitivity or pain. will my treatment be affected now? does tooth movement get affected if tooth is restored.?,

I have had a lot of trouble with matching my teeth shade to my veneers. Is it safe to have my veneers replaced for a fourth time?

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010
Q.
Hi Dr Solanki, I have had 3 sets of veneers in total. I decided to get veneers 15 years ago because I had stains on my top middle two teeth and after feeling very self conscious throughout my teens, I decided to get the top 6 done to make sure they were all the same colour. I got the first set of veneers replaced after 14 years because the colour wasn’t as bright and I wanted them whiter. I went to a new dentist who did the veneers in a shade that I hated. He didn’t even ask me what colour I wanted, he just told me the shade number (A2). (The first dentist put a colour chart next to my mouth and asked me what shade I would like and I expected this new dentist to do the same). I then lived with the horrible A2 for two years before going back to bleach the bottom teeth and asking him to redo the top to then match the bottom. After I get my teeth filed down again (for the 3rd set of veneers) I ask him what shade he has ordered for me, he shows me A1 and tells me that it will be really white. I then wait for 3 weeks and finally go get the new veneers on and now the bottom teeth are lighter than the top! I’m in despair!! I pointed out that they don’t match the bottom and he tells me he doesn’t have a shade lighter than A1. I’ve looked on the internet and know that there are in fact shades a lot lighter than that! So my question to you is: I’ve now had my teeth veneered 3 times – is it ‘safe’ to have them done again? How many times can you do this to your teeth? Thanks very much in advance!,

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010
Q.
I have severe tetracycline staining and was looking at the enlighten teeth whitening procedure. Obviously would like to achieve really good results, but how realistic is this ..I have been shown the shades of what could be achieved of “before and after”. How do i know that this could work on my teeth because of the staining. ? Is the staining surface or through the tooth as every tooth is stained. Look forward to receiving your comments..,

Daughter’s teeth are yellow and dentist says she could undergo teeth whitening, but can she?

Friday, August 13th, 2010
Q.
Hi. My 13yr old daughter has always had very yellow, badly ‘stained’ looking 2nd teeth (especially 1 at the front). My dentist informs me that she COULD undergo some degree of whitening at this age.She is so self-conscious of them that she only smiles with closed mouth. I’d be grateful if you could give me any info about proceedures, costs etc. My budget it very limited – she has been living in Johannesburg for the last 5 yrs, and she only comes back occassionally -all my money goes on this. Thank you very much for reading this. ,

Hos can I go about getting a free smile makeover?

Thursday, August 5th, 2010
Q.
Hi Dr. I was looking on the smile gallery and I see some smiles have been donated. How can I apply for a free smile. makeover? I’ve never been happy with my teeth. I used to have a tooth growing above my others in the gums so my local NHS dentist took out the tooth and another and gave me a bridge some 8 years ago. It used to fall out which was very embarrassing/demoralising and caused me all sorts of problens. I know they don’t have a long life cycle and even more so with the type of quality the NHS use. A good few years ago I was developing erosion/stained front teeth so my NHS dentist gave me two vaneers which are a different shape, size and colour to what they were. I’m now left with 4 ‘fake’ teeth of the poorest quality which I’m stuck with until they fall out. Needless to say I’m absolutely devestated, my teeth are horrible! I’m a fraction of the bubbly, confident person I used to be. Its affected my self esteem so much now that I won’t get into a relationship and even hinders friendships with people and family, I hardly ever laugh and smile with my mouth closed; there isn’t 1 photo of me showing my teeth. I find it so embarrassing to talk to anyone about it hence why I’ve not selected the box to have this published. I am studying to get a better job to afford the treatment but I won’t be finished for a few years and then in the current climate there might not be a job about for me. I feel like any moment I could become clinically depressed. Sorry for babbling on. I would be eternally grateful if you can help! Kind Regards ,
