Will root treated tooth turn black over time? If so, how to get rid of it?

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009
Q.
Hi Please can you help? I had a root filling done on one of my front teeth 5 years ago….the same tooth has been going black ever since. I have recently changed dentists and have discovered that when the original root filling was done a piece of cotton wool was left inside, so no matter how much i brushed my teeth it wasn’t making a difference to this tooth. This tooth is now causing the tooth next to it to discolour. My dentist has told me that because i get nhs help (full exemption) then there is nothing they can do for me? I think i need a cap or crown on it (don’t know which). The tooth is causing me real self confidence problems and i dont know what else to do. I hope you can help. Many Thanks.

I need a root canal procedure is there any way i can still have my teeth look the same?

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009
Q.
Hi, I was wondering about a root canal. I need a root canal procedure on my right front tooth. I heard that you have to have a crown when the procedure is finished. I’m worried about my smile and if the crown color will match my other teeth. I don’t want my tooth to be obvious. Is there any way I can still have my teeth look the same ? THANKS. 🙂

Q.
I have an existing root canal in tooth #31. The root has split and has gotten infected. I am on antibiotics. I do not want to lose the tooth since I am 60 years old. Do I have any choices other than extractions?

Ive a infection in my tooth should I go for Implants or root canal treatment

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009
Q.
Hi, I wonder if you could clarify something for me. I went to my NHS dentist with an upper molar toothache and he advised tht I had an infection which required root treatment. He advised that he was only a general dentist and would probably only be 65% successful with this treatment due to my having 30-40% bone loss, he advised that referral to a specialist would take 5 months on the NHS. He advised me to go privately to a specialist who would have 80 – 85% success, at a cost of 400-600 pounds, then if that was successful he would then put me a crown on the tooth at another cost of £300. I am resigned to the fact that I don’t want to lose my tooth as I am only 40 years of age but I just wanted a second opinion as to whether this was logical as im going to have to travel 60 miles for this referral. I asked him about an implant but he said it was always better to save a healthy tooth which is what he says I have before I start considering an implant. Your advise would be appreciated.

Can root canal be done with out ruining the post for the bridge

Monday, August 17th, 2009
Q.
The capped tooth which serves as the post for the bridge needs a root canal. Can this be safely done without ruining/cracking the (procelain) bridge itself? What’s the percentage of the bridge being ruined?
