Is removing the infected teeth solution for removing infected gum?

Q. Dear Julian my daughter is 7 , and she has one of her teeth infected , and its like a infected spot on the side of the gum…she been prescribed an antibiotic ..wich is ok..but the dentist said that he will remove that tooth , and i am realy against that..please , advise if it nessesary to do it .( its the nmbr 3 from the back on lower jaw) many thanks !

A. If the tooth is abscessed the best course of treatment is to root treat the tooth.  This is often not successful and the toth needs to be removed.  If the tooth is badly decayed root treatment may well not be an option
