my tooth crown has become sensitive

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009
Q.
Hi,. I got fixed a crown by a dentist for my front teeth 3 years back and for the past two or three days I am feeling sensitive to cold and I can feel whatever I ingest that it feels like it goes inside the crown and I just checked if it is loose but it is not, I am really scared, how will the doctor remove the old one it is so strong and hard inside and by removing it does my teeth get loosened, lots of things going on my mind terribly scared as I am not yet married, I got this done for asthetic purpose now that feeling did a wrong thing. Please I need to know from you that what should be done? right now having a all ceramic crown, does it need to be x-rayed, removed and cleaned, need your sincere advise regarding this. Regards

I had root canal treatment 5 years ago

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009
Q.
Hi.. I had root canal treatment 5 years ago. I felt from the start that the dentist had not done a great job. I have always had occasional pains and throbbing in the tooth after the treatment. I could put my tongue on the tooth and feel the throb Anyway, the past few days I have been having a very bad ache in it, I went to a new dentist and he said I have an abscess in the tooth, I am taking ABs and Anti Inflammatorys. He said the root canal was a bad job and he could see that from the Xray. I now have to see a root canal specialist and have it redone which I cannot afford. I just want to ask, is this a common thing to happen after 5 years? I look after my teeth. I want to write a letter to the dentist who did the RCT, and ask for a refund. Do you think I am wrong to do this? Thanks in advance..

I had severe pain and the area above some teeth was swollen

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009
Q.
Hi I had severe pain and the area above some teeth was swollen about 2 months ago which lasted a week or two and after that I only felt very little pain if i touched the area. I couldnt visit the dentist at the time as i was very busy. I visted the dentist 1 month ago for a routine checkup the dentist said i had an infection in a tooth i had a filling in and this came about as there was some space and that bacteria has got into it. I had an xray and took out the filling and created an opening in the tooth for infection to drain he said that he will give it a week or so to see if the infecttion has finished or he will take have to remove the tooth as it have damaged the bone around it or so. When i returned after a week i asked him to see if the infecttion has got less, without even looking at he said it wouldnt have in a week and he needs to remove it. I did not allow him to remove the tooth and said i will give it more time to get better and he said ok but he wont put a filling on that tooth as it wont allow the infection any opening if he did that. He did not give me any medicine or anything for the infection. I dont have any pain but if i touch on top of that area i feel very slight pain and the area is no longer swollen. What shall i do, is there a way to get rid of the infection or will i have to have the tooth removed?

I recently noticed that i have a cracked tooth

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009
Q.
I just recently noticed that i have a cracked tooth where i have already had a filling about a year ago. Early today i was brushing my teeth and noticed a chunk of the top of my tooth was missing and i looked in the mirror and noticed that all i can see is a little of my gums and the rest of my tooth which has some blackish spots. It doesn’t hurt but i’m worried its worse than i think and i’ll need a root canal. please help me understand what this is.

Approximatly 9 months ago I had root canal treatment

Saturday, February 7th, 2009
Q.
Approximatly 9 months ago I had root canal treatment and a crown fitted to a Molar bottom right. I was told by the dentist that one of the roots was a bit ‘sticky’ and she was having trouble with it. In fact the treatment went on for several visits Approx 5 X 1 hour sessions because she said she couldn’t get the root right. I am obviously not an expert but I was telling her things did not feel right more or less from the completion of the crown. Meanwhile she advised that I continue to have several other mercury fillings replaced with white fillings as they were very old and needed re-doing. (I have spent approx £2200 in total including the crowns so far) approx one filling a month. When I said things did not feel right and I could not localise where or how it didn’t feel right I was told it was probably my gums. With all the work I was having done it was very difficult for me to be exact about how odd it felt. I recently had another smaller crown that went without incident so I have now been able to compare the feeling and have today informed her that something is wrong with the first crown. She says it maybe the root. X-ray does not show anything untoward no infection obvious but it feels tender under the tooth this is the only way I can describe it I also feel slight discomfort if I bite down on it. She says when this tratment is done there is never any certainty to it and that if it doesn’t settle down she could refer me to an expert to carry out and another root canal and crown she says this may cost around £1300 or she could crown the tooth behind which at the moment has a good filling nothing else wrong and bridge over the troublesome tooth after an extraction. I am writing because firstly I am wondering if I have any come back regarding the first procedure. Which cost in excess of £500 (I know this is a reasonable) but now with options of either £650 -£700) for her suggestion or £1300 for a specialist it isn’t that good a price is it because it hasn’t worked. I do have insurance taken out through the practice I believe it has given me 20% off the full prices. Perhaps she should have referred me in the first place I just don’t know. She appeared to have so much trouble with it from the begining, it just doesn’t seem rightthat in less than a year I have to pay all over again. Obviously the person advising me is the person who ‘may’ have made a mistake and I have lost some confidence in her. I am a single parent of three and this is money I can not afford, when I explained how difficult things were financially she said that if I left things there was a risk it to the jaw bone and this would lead to severe problems. She has given me a course of antibiotics just in case and I’m to go back in a week with a decision. I don’t know where to go for advice or what to do Please can you advise me. Many thanks
