I had severe pain and the area above some teeth was swollen
Q. Hi I had severe pain and the area above some teeth was swollen about 2 months ago which lasted a week or two and after that I only felt very little pain if i touched the area. I couldnt visit the dentist at the time as i was very busy. I visted the dentist 1 month ago for a routine checkup the dentist said i had an infection in a tooth i had a filling in and this came about as there was some space and that bacteria has got into it. I had an xray and took out the filling and created an opening in the tooth for infection to drain he said that he will give it a week or so to see if the infecttion has finished or he will take have to remove the tooth as it have damaged the bone around it or so. When i returned after a week i asked him to see if the infecttion has got less, without even looking at he said it wouldnt have in a week and he needs to remove it. I did not allow him to remove the tooth and said i will give it more time to get better and he said ok but he wont put a filling on that tooth as it wont allow the infection any opening if he did that. He did not give me any medicine or anything for the infection. I dont have any pain but if i touch on top of that area i feel very slight pain and the area is no longer swollen. What shall i do, is there a way to get rid of the infection or will i have to have the tooth removed?
A. Hi,
within the confines of the nhs the only you could do here is have the tooth extracted , privately if the tooth is viable a root canal treatment could be done.
your priorities seem messed up-you were in incredible pain yet you couldnt be motivated to see the dentist for a month, the longer you left it the worse the prognosis so you will probably lose this tooth

I have a swolen gum its the jaw line.
I have had root canat treatment on my large molar on the bottom right.
There is an infection in the gum and jaw i guess.
Can anything be done or will i simply lose the tooth now.
It will be the first tooth i may lose.
This all happened as a result of getting a white filling to replace an amalgum and the dentist drilling into the tooth too far.
Is there anything you suggest.
