Are Lumineers an alternative for Veneers to treat discolouration does the colour show

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009
Q.
I have had root canal treatment on 2 of my front teeth and has a result there has been some discolouration. Most people say thay cant tell but i am very conscious of it. I have considered Veneers but have been put off by having tooth filed down. I have recently heard about Lumineers and wondered if this was an alternative? Would colour show through? What is cost? Many thanks

Problem with my root canal treatment affecting my confidence and my lifestyle advice

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009
Q.
Following an accident about 18 months ago one of my front teeth was knocked out- this was able to be replaced by a doctor in A and E. I then had root canal treatment on the tooth by my dentist. Unfortunately the tooth was not replaced straight and is alot more forward than the one at the side of it and slightly overlaps. Since the accident my confidance has been significantly affected. I find I cover my mouth when I laugh or smile. Also I have recently noticed movement in my gum when I bite down on the tooth- im concerned the tooth will crack or fall out and so I tend to eat on one side of my mouth away from the effected tooth. Are there any solutions available to restore my confidance in my smile and with eating food again? Thank you.

new dentist is suggesting replacing and extending a root canal what is the wisest decision

Monday, April 20th, 2009
Q.
Hello, My new dentist is suggesting replacing and extending a root canal that was done several years ago before she applies a crown to the dead tooth, as x-rays show it doesn’t go the full length of the root and is a little uneven. It’s never caused me problems in the 16+ years I’ve had it, but she says it might be a good idea to give the crown a better foundation, but the choice is mine – what’s the wisest decision to make?

how wise would it be to wait a 6 months before considering putting a crown on the tooth?

Monday, April 20th, 2009
Q.
I have an ongoing concern that if possible I would like you to help me with. 6 months ago I had a root canal procedure performed on my lower 2nd premolar (5th tooth from the lower front). The root canal went well however the dentist abstained from putting a crown on the tooth because he wanted to wait 6 months to make sure the procedure had been successful. 6 months has now passed. However recently half of the inner portion of my own crown has now broken off at the gum line (the side closest to my tongue). However I noticed after the break that there was a filling there spanning the same length of my broken tooth from the gum line up to the length of my remaining tooth. So food debris were less likely to get inside the tooth. I visited the dentist for this break and they removed my old filling from the previous root canal procedure because they said that it was loose, and replaced it with a temporary filling. I have to go back in 2 weeks time to have a permanent filling put back in. After having x rayed the tooth the dentist said that there had been an improvement in the tooth since my root canal 6 months ago. My concern is that I now have a new dentist and despite telling them that my previous dentist planned to put a crown on my tooth after 6 months. My new dentist has said that they would like to wait a further 6 months before considering putting a crown on the tooth to make sure everything is ok. Considering that my weakened tooth has already broken once in the 6 months since having root canal, how wise would it be to wait a further 6 months before considering putting a crown on the tooth? Isn’t there a higher risk that the tooth will break again within these 6 months making it less possible to crown it? I would really appreciate your help and advice in this matter. Kind Regards

my root canal filling was over extended will this cause any short or long term problems?

Sunday, April 19th, 2009
Q.
Hi i had the second stage of a root canal filling at my dentist yesterday. Because of an error between the dentist and the nurse the rubber filling was pushed through the bottom of one of the roots and into the gum, this was because the instrument had not been set to the right depth. The dentist took an xray and showed me where the rubber compound had gone through the root. Will this cause any short/medium/long term problems? Obviously the treatment was painfull and i am not very happy.

is it normal to experience tooth ache 2 days after root canal treatment?

Sunday, April 19th, 2009
Q.
I started to experience pain in my lower left side of my mouth, 2 days later I made an emergency appointment with my dentist (as the pain had not subsided) an x-ray was taken and although no abscess appeared to be present i had a deep filling and it was believed that the filling had leaked. I received antibiotics. On Monday i had the first part of a root canal treatment and a temporary filling was put in place. The dentist found 4 canals. It is now Wednesday and i am concerned that i am still experiencing tooth ache. On average it does not feel as severe as i was experiencing prior to the root canal but i actually woke up with excruciating tooth ache at 3am this morning. Is it normal to experience tooth ache 2 days after the first part of the procedure (taking into account i experienced severe constant pain prior to the first part of the procedure)? And if so, how long should i expect the pain to carry on before assuming the first part of the procedure was unsuccessful? regards
