I have had a Root Canal of one of my front tooth

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008
Q.
I have had a Root Canal of one of my front tooth six year ago. I have recently started to feel extreme sensitivity in the other front tooth (not the one treated). Both of the teeth were crowned at the time of RCT. What can be the possible cause and how should I go about it?

I have been going to a private dentist for 3 years

Saturday, October 11th, 2008
Q.
I have been going to a private dentist for 3 years now and i am always there having something done as she always tells me something needs doing and i trust her, she did let slip she is having a hard time financially and now i have begun to look at certain things, for example, she has done 4 fillings for me, 3 of which have needed to go to a route canals with in a year, now only 2 years on she is telling me i need to extract the two teeth that she done the route canal and crown on and have a false tooth implant, which costs a lot of money! My husband goes to her too, today he was told by her that the route canal and crown she done for him 10 months ago now needs to be extracted and false tooth put in place! I had a filing done 15 years ago that is fine and a route canal and so is the same for my husband! Something seems wrong here, all the work she has ever done on me and my husband has failed somehow, should I change dentists? or am i just unlucky?! Please help.

If a crown is fitted to a back tooth which has not

Thursday, October 9th, 2008
Q.
If a crown is fitted to a back tooth which has not had root canal work and is heavily filled, how does it attach to what is left? As the tooth is filled I don’t understand how any sort of post to anchor the crown can be made. Many thanks.

I have a front tooth that has had a root canal done

Friday, September 26th, 2008
Q.
Hi, I have a front tooth that has had a root canal done on it a few years ago but it has now got infected and I have an absess on it. The X-rays of the rooth canal all look fine and that the job was done correctly. I am now being advised that I need to have my front tooth extracted which is scaring me as I am only 30 years old and do not want to have a false/implant here. Apparently an apicectomy isn’t going to be much use but I really don’t want to lose the tooth. Can you recommend anything or is an implant the best option for me? If so, can you reassure me that it will look good? Many thanks.

I was in a lot of pain before my root canal treatment

Thursday, September 25th, 2008
Q.
Hi I was in a lot of pain before my root canal treatment but after the first part of the treatment(which was very painful as the dentist said I had some inflamation) I felt no pain at all and it was like a miracle. During my second visit, the dentist spent a lot of time filing in part of my tooth which again was very painful. He then put three long wires into my tooth and took an xray and said he needed to file deeper next visit. He said he wouldn’t be able to root fill the tooth until all the pain had gone when filing inside my tooth.I had this treatment on Wed last week and I am still feeling v. sore. I am really disappointed as I thought all the pain would be over now. Is this normal for soreness to last so long after the second part of the treatment? The dentsit has put medication in my tooth (whatever that is?) What has hapened to the nerve in my tooth? Has the dentist removed/killed it? If so why do I still feel soreness. Many thanks

I have been having treatment for a root canal on 2 teeth

Thursday, September 25th, 2008
Q.
I have been having treatment for a root canal on two teeth. My dentist believes that white fillings will be best for these teeth is this the cas as I am aware that crowns may be best. Also a fracture tooth needs repaired. She believes that white filling will be best. Is this also the case? Due to my previous illness of anorexia and bulima for over ten years this has erroded my teeth and has left them in bad shape at the back. Is there anyway I can build these teeth back up again? I am also aware that people can become models for students in college. I would be happy to do this if I was to recieve good dental treatment. Thankyou for your help. Kind Regards

My bottom back molar has spiral roots

Friday, September 19th, 2008
Q.
My bottom back molar has spiral roots and required a root canal filling, but after two sessions my dentist was unable to remove any of the nerves completely .So we decided to put a filling in the tooth { because i did not want to lose this tooth }and to see how it went . Six weeks on and the tooth is beginning to give me problems. Is there no other treatment to remove or kill off the nerves in this tooth,if not what options are open to me on the nhs.

my root canal broke and i had to get my tooth pulled out

Sunday, September 14th, 2008
Q.
Hi Dr. Caplan, I had a root canal done a few months back, and within 3 weeks of getting it done, it broke, and I had to get my tooth pulled. Is this normal? Is my dentist imcompetent or does this happen often? I was really upset about it, and now I’m missing a tooth on my top right side, it’s hard to eat without it on that side. Then he did 4 more root canals without telling me to get a crown right away, and another one broke, and I had to get the tooth pulled. 2 others broke but luckily my teeth are still there, but not for long if I don’t get my caps done. What do you suggest I do? Do I switch dentists? Do I sue? Should he be capping them right away? Please let me know what to do, I’m sure I’ve spent over $20,000 over the past 2 years and I don’t know why I’m having so many issues with my teeth, that I’ve NEVER had in my life. And, I absolutely do not want to lose any more teeth, it’s embarassing, and painful. Thanks

pain after having root canal re done

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008
Q.
After having pain in one of my upper front teeth, I was advised to have two root canals redone. I was still in pain after this treatment and was referred to a periodontist who after examining me proclaimed that I have a bone fracture above my front teeth and a large cyst. I have been advised to have the following treatment: removal of my 4 front teeth 7,8,9 & 10 bone grafting implants on teeth 7 & 10 bridges on teeth 8 & 9 Firstly what would cause a bone fracture? Does this treatment sound like a good option? I am a little wary especially after the initial misdiagnosis, the periodontist did ask why the root canals had been re done and then suggested that maybe the fracture had been missed on previous x-rays (4 were taken before treatment began, and 2 after), is this a likely scenario? The periodontist noticed the fracture on my full mouth x-rays and then confirmed it with 2 more. Apologies if I have muddled my questions somewhat, I am still in shock!
