my 10 year daughter has overbite is there any other alternative than having retainers

Sunday, June 28th, 2009
Q.
Hi, my 10 year old daughter has a 10mm overbite and has been given upper and lower retainers. These are quite bulky, awkward and cause her difficulty speaking – because of their inherent design, she cannot close her mouth fully. I was told that the goal was to move the lower jaw forward, before fitting ‘train tracks’ in 6 to 12 months time. My daughter is shy, and finds these appliances socially very difficult. The only alternative offered was removal of 2 upper teeth and then train tracks, but were we told much better results would be obtained using these bulky and awkward retainers. My question therefore is, is there an alternative to these unpleasant appliances that can achieve the same result?

I have retainer to wear at night will it keep my teeth in straight position

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009
Q.
Hi,I am 45 years old and had fixed braces to close a large gap in my two front teeth which was removed in March last year. I was overjoyed at the result and had a wire fixed to the back of my teeth to prevent them from moving back, my problem now is that the wire keeps coming off and to date have already swallowed two !The third is now falling off and I cant cope with this for the rest of my life ! I have a retainer to wear at night so if I continue with this alone will my teeth stay in position ? Please help me as my poor husband is now driven to distracton with all this and its already cost him a small fortune to get me a smile I am finally proud of ! Thanks,

My bottom tooth has moved forward will the ortho be able to fix without braces

Monday, June 15th, 2009
Q.
I’m 17 years old, I got my braces off two-three years ago. I have a perment retainer on my bottom and a retainer I wear at night for my top. A friend pointed out to me that my bottom tooth (on the right side of my two front ones) has moved foward and slightly to the left. Will the ortho be able to fix this without putting braces back on? Will it cost more money?

My tooth are moving forward advice whether to wear an Invisalign braces and a retainer

Sunday, June 14th, 2009
Q.
Hi Dr I recently went for a check up at my dentist as I was concerned that my teeth were moving forward due to my wisdom teeth being slightly impacted. I have in the past been to an Orthadontic hopital were they have carried out x-rays and concluded that they would not remove my wisdom as they are too close to the nerves. Therefore when I went for my recent check up I was keen to hear what the dentist would say about the movement of my teeth as they seem to get worse as time goes by. The dentist told me that the reason my teeth are moving is nothing to do with my wisdom teeth but is in fact caused by the contracting of my jaw muscle, which push the teeth forward. She also imformed me that this would get worse as time passed and that the only way to rectify it would be to have a brace, however the teeth could, once the brace is removed, move again! I have seen all the recent publicity of Invisalign and wonder if I was to go ahead and order Invisalign braces, would I, once these have been removed, need to wear a permanent retainer? And if so, would this be for the foreseeable future? Your advice is much appreciated. Many thanks

I have a really bad overbite is there any way to fix it using retainers instead of braces

Sunday, May 31st, 2009
Q.
I have a really bad overbite and I want to get it fixed without braces. When I went to an orthodontist before, they were going to remove 2 of my top teeth to help push them back faster and make more room in my mouth. Is there any way I could do that but use a retainer instead of braces?

are there any less expensive alternatives to fix my overbite for my two front teeth

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009
Q.
I have recently been given a quote to fix the overbite for my two front teeth, £2500 using clearstep, taking around 12-16 Months and I was informed that I would have to have a peramant fixed retainer fixed to the back of my teeth. Also was told to get a ‘perfect’ smile and bite I should get my bottom teeth done as well for £2000 more. Does this sound correct or am I being ripped off? It sounds really expensive, are there any similar alternatives? Thanks
