What is the cause for other unit of bridge to feel rough?

Monday, October 19th, 2009
Q.
Hello Dr Solanki I had a missing tooth at the back of my upper teeth, the front two had previously been veneered some 14 years ago and one tooth next to a front tooth was a crown. I wanted the crown replaced, a bridge to be fitted to fill the missing tooth and the rest of my uppert teeth, which were healthy, to be veneered. The dentist thought it best to replace the whole upper teeth with two seper bridges, one starting from the right front and one fron the left front, a total of 11 teeth. the bridge unit starting from the left is ok , feeling quite smooth, but the other unit feels rough. What is causing this and what would be the remedy, and also, is it wise to file down perfectly healthy teeth to take a bridge? Thanks

Why to hv full root canal procedure when there is no infection?

Monday, October 19th, 2009
Q.
#14 molar had cold and sweet sensetivity. USC Dental school removed decay close to pulp, pulled nerves, filled cavities, put temp crown. told there is no sign of infection. If nerves are already pulled why go to the proceedure and cost of full root canal , Why not return for full crown only, Cavity was deep soft dentin close to the pulp i believe was the cause of pain

Is crowning for £900 per tooth expensive Plz advice

Monday, October 19th, 2009
Q.
I am looking to have my 2 crowns replaced as they are beginning to look discoloured (fitted 18 years ago) and I have some gum receeding. I am not convinced my dentist will do a good job and I have had another quote form an orthadontist for £900 per tooth – is this very expensive? I think my own dentist charges in the region of £300.

Can I hv crowns replaced instead of dentures Plz advice

Thursday, October 15th, 2009
Q.
I have had a severe fear of the dentist after having a terrible experience around 10 years ago. Unfortunately in this time my teeth have gotten in to very bad condition, which I am really embarrassed about. After my front crown got caught at a dancing competition and broke, I decided I needed to take action and so I visited the local dentist. He devised a plan for me and I am currently on the waiting list to have the necessary teeth removed at the hospital and then all the fillings and treatment I need completing. I was however horrified with his advice to have my two front crowns replaced with dentures. I am 25 years old and devastated with this suggestion! There are crowns on my two front teeth at the moment(granted one is cracked) and I am in no pain. If I pay privately can I choose to have the crowns replaced? I understand that ultimately the dentists advice may be correct, however, I at least want to try! I would really appreciate your help, as I am so upset! Thank you in advance!

I had crown fitted and I m unhappy with appearance of the tooth Plz advice

Thursday, October 15th, 2009
Q.
I have recently had a crown fitted to repair a lower molar tooth. I asked for a ceramic crown. The front of the tooth looks good but the back of the tooth appears very black along the lower edge. I had the crown fitted two weeks ago. I am unhappy with the appearance of the tooth. I £400 for the crown. Is this usual? Many thanks.

Is there any alternative to denture as I find it very painful?

Thursday, October 15th, 2009
Q.
I had cosmetic dentistry done many years ago, which included replacing my middle four front teeth (top) with crowns. One was knocked loose and subsquently I have had it removed as it was apparently so small that there was nothing for crown to hold on to. I am now using a temp denture, however a couple of things I would appreciate your advice on: 1) is there any alternative to temp denture, only I find it very painful after a while, and it looks very ugly with a thick pink plastic rim around the tooth, that does not match my gum and looks very prominent. 2) I have been diagnosed with gum disease around these crowns, and am desperately trying to work on this, but is teh denture now causing irritation to gums, as they not getting any better (p.s. gum disease appears to be around teh crowns only) I am very depressed about this situation and would give anything to be able to smile again, Many Thanks

Could you plz give some details for resin composite crown?

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009
Q.
Hi, Dr. Glaister: Dentist said I had a vertical crack in my lower left molar (tooth number 18) in the back of the tooth. It doesn’t hurt although sometimes I feel sensitivity when I chew. He said I should have a crown. I heard the cheapest crown is a resin composite. What is the life expectancy of that kind of crown and can it be done quickly in one visit? Is it different than a metal or porcelain crown inthat they don’t have to grind your teeth?

Plz advice on the rules for NHS dentistry in regards of crowns

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009
Q.
Hello. I have a crown fitted in the front of my mouth. the gum line has receeded and the crown is now cracked (having been filled down to slim it by a dentist after It took too long to refit it when it dropped out and the other teeth had moved). it looks unsightly and the crown is partially shaven on one of the sides. My dentist says I would have to have a private crown to replace it, as its only a cosmetic problem. however, surely a less than complete crown is a little more than cosmetic. I have also developed a gum boil above the tooth now and I beleive this is becuase the slimmed down crown has allowed food to compact and enter the gum. where can I find a copy of the rules for NHS dentristy in regards to crowns? thank you
