How noticeable do you think a non-porcelain crown will be?

Friday, March 23rd, 2012
Q.

Hello Mark, I have just had a consultation with my dentist for porcelain crowns and found the price to be way out of my reach. However he gave me an alternative cheaper price for non porcelain ones but said i will have a black line at the top of these crowns between the crown and the gum. How noticable do you think this will be as i don’t want to be disappointed with the end result after paying that much money. Thankyou

I am not happy with crown treatment from my private dentist, is there anything I can do?

Thursday, October 27th, 2011
Q.

I recently had a private crown fitted on one of my top front teeth. This cost me 450 pound. The dentist did not discuss with me the actual materials that would be used pior to the impession being made. I did make it clear that I did not want any darkness where the crown fitted into the gum. When the crown arrived, I was most unhappy as it was a different colour, more creamier than my other teeth, although the colour the dentist chose appeared to be correct. Also the crown was more rounded and not flat like my other teeth. But I did notice that the crown had a metal interior, which I have to be honest I did not expect. I was told many years ago by another dentist that a private crown is not made with the metal. So I am asking should a private crown be made of porcelain alone or are there occasions where the inside is still metal ?
I have had the crown fitted now but still am not totally happy wit it. It still looks creamier in certain lights. Is this because of the metal interior. Also it is wider than my other front tooth. I did ask my dentist to replace a tiny filling which was at the top of my tooth beside the crowned tooth but he drilled the whole tooth down and then the impression was taken for the crown which I believe has caused my tooth to be wider. Thie crowned tooth now feels jammed against the other front tooth and is sometimes causing some sensitivity. What do I do ?. Did I not have the correct quality of a private crown fitted ?

My dentis gave me a gold crown instead of a porcelain one, what can I do?

Monday, May 23rd, 2011
Q.

I had a crown fitted recently and it was not what I have expected. Before the procedure I had two dental appointments during which I have discussed with my dentist about the type and colour of the crown. I clearly asked for a porcelain crown and picked out a shade from the catalogue. After a crown has been fitted I saw that a gold crown was in place, not the porcelain I had picked out. The dentist does not take any responsibility for the mistake and just said that nothing can be done now.
Is there anything that could be done to correct the problem as I’m not happy with the way the gold crown shows when I smile?

whats an alternative to gold teeth for my son?

Tuesday, May 10th, 2011
Q.

Hello dr i as wondeing if you maybe of some assistance please i have a enquiry regarding my son , My son has 4 gold teeth in his mouth and has recently decided he wants to enlist in the navy. How much will it cost to have these gold teeth removed? He is a very nice young man who made a terrible decision at the age of 18, against my advice. He would like to follow in the foot steps of his older brother, uncle and cousin. Also would it be cheaper if he went to a dental school where students are still learning? That sounds a little scarey but he has to do something……..!!i just need some idea on what he will be paying and whether its worth it in the long ter m  ?
