Should I get ortho treatment with NHS or private dentist?

Monday, January 25th, 2010
Q.
Hi there i was wondering if you could help me. I have recently started the process of orthadontic treatment. Im 22 years of age with an overbite. I recently saw a private orthadontist who advised me that i would need corrective jaw sugery to bring my top jaw back and move my lower jaw foward. But this would only be possible for me to do through the NHS rather than going private. I just want to know if i stayed with the private orthadontist and had my teeth straightened would i then be able to look in to having the sugery done?,

Can braces fix my teeth?

Friday, January 22nd, 2010
Q.
Hi, I am very self concious about my crooked teeth. I had a brace when I was about 17 (now 35) but my teeth have moved an awful lot since then (wisdom teeth came through) so feel I’m back to square one. The problem, when I was 17, was I had a ‘fang’ (as I called it) that grew sort of in front of another tooth at the front, it was quite high above the line of the rest of my teeth. The tooth at the back was extracted and the fang was brought down with the brace. Now it looks horrible again, it sits further forward than the rest of my teeth and also I feel the gum has receeded slightly (its sensitive if anything sweet gets around the top of the tooth). I’m worried it will need extracting?? I’m so sorry to ramble on, I would love to get my teeth straightened again because I’ve been so unhappy for years. I really hope your able to reassure me. Many Thanks.,

Can tooth grown out of gum be removed?

Thursday, January 21st, 2010
Q.
My grand-daughter (age 25) has a tooth that has grown out of her gum due to, I think, from a poorly done Orthodontic procedure when she was age 11. It is on the left upper side of her mouth. Can this be removed now?,

Would braces be suitable for me?

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010
Q.
Dear Dr.Caplan, I am hoping you can give me some advice. About 8 years ago I had my teeth straighted, and about 2 years ago I had the fixed wire on the back of my teeth at the top removed, as I have a tight bite and it was rubbing off the fixture. Unfortunately my teeth have started to move again, and I am not sure how to fix it. I think it is one tooth at the back pushing the others but I’m not sure. Do I have to get the wire at the back fitted again, or are there any other options? I would appreciate any advice you could give me. Thanks very much, and best regards,,

Can I get help for relapsed teeth?

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010
Q.
Hi, I was told by my dentist when I was about 11 that my teeth were too big for my mouth and I would need braces. my top and bottom front teeth had begun to overlap. I saw an orthodentist and had 4 teeth extracted from the top and bottom at the back on each side I then wore a retainer for a while and went on to a fixed brace after, for about 18 months. My teeth started to overlap again about a year later and now i’m 21 and dont know what to do to straighten them. I’ve changed dentists since I had my braces as they had closed the surgery and have had trouble ever since finding a denist who will sit down for more than 5 secs and talk to me about it. Please could you advise me on what sort of treatment I would need for this problem and if theres a way that wouldnt cost me thousands of pounds that i dont have. Thanks,
