Can my tooth gap be closed and my teeth aligned correctly?

Hi, My two front teeth are capped, I also have a gap which has increased over the years, the teeth are different widths, due to the reduction of teeth under neath, they also protrude, can the gap be closed and the teeth aligned correctly, I have always looked after my teeth, but have never been comfortable with my smile, I am 52 with some receeding, the caps are metal based. my 17 yr old son had an accident last year and broke half his front tooth off. This was filled by the dentist but I do not feel it was a good job. We have revisited the dentist in regard to having a brace on the teeth as the broken one is sticking out he has said that we will need to pay for this is this correct and how much would this cost on the nhs,
