What are dental implants made from?

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010
Q.
Hi Dr Bohara , im currently learning about dental biomaterials. Which materials (including metal and ceramic) are used for dental implants? Also why do the implants come in different diameters and lengths? And why would implant failure occur? Many Thanks!!,

Why have I been told I have signs of gum disease?

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010
Q.
Hi! I went to my dentist recently and he told me that i was “starting” with gum disease in my bottom left corner. My teeth do bleed when the dentist cleans them and a little when i floss, other than that my teeth are fine. He didn’t seem alarmed at this, but it alarmed me! It sounds really bad! I asked him if i actually had gum disease and he said no, but to take care, visit the dentist every 6 months and floss etc. I had a baby just over a year ago and my teeth started bleeding more when pregnant. Im scared now that i am going to lose my teeth and have an electric tooth brush, floss 3 times a day, brush 3 times a day, and use antibacterial mouthwash twice a day. My parents have recently had dental implants due to gum disease but they both smoked heavily all their lives and didnt take care of their teeth. Is it hereditary? Im scared to death! Also (im not sure if im being paranoid) but i think a gap between my 2 front teeth has appeared slightly and im worried this means my gums are residing? Do gaps appear for any other reason? Im going to visit my dads private dentist in February but wanted some advice now as im panicking a bit! I know gum disease takes time to get worse but im terrified of losing my teeth! Thank you very much! Oh and i dont smoke and never have! im 24! Thank you…,

Can I fix the gap in the back of my teeth consider plaque?

Monday, December 7th, 2009
Q.
Hello, If your reading this, THANK YOU for taking the time to answer my question. Ever since my last dental visit I noticed this gap in the back of my four bottom front teeth. Before it started to bother me I noticed a white lining around the bottom of my teeth (just on the bottom four in the front) It wasn’t until the other day that it started to bother me really bad. My tongue will NOT stop playing with the gap in the back of my two front teeth. I hope I didn’t make it worse by trying to figure out what it was. I can stick my fingernail between the gap and under my teeth where the white lining was on my teeth. I think I picked the white stuff off. My guess, it would be plaque.(I thought that stuff was hard to get off) How much would I be looking at to fix the gap in the back of my teeth? AGAIN THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME YOU WOULD BE HELPING ME SO MUCH WITH A REPLY.

Confused as I cannot find a reason for my smelly and rotting teeth.

Monday, December 7th, 2009
Q.
I had a veneer on my lateral incisor around 4 years ago. Last year I noticed that the tooth was discoloured around the gum line and had a bad smell/taste and feeling of pressure – never pain. After several courses of antibotics my Dentist performed root treatment, twice as it was unsuccessful the first time. My tooth still smells and tastes bad and my dentist is baffled – any ideas? I think perhaps there is a gap between the veneer and my tooth and that the front shell of my tooth is rotting, could that be the case – is there anything can be done? Thanks

Will my daughter have the same milk teeth problem that I had?

Friday, December 4th, 2009
Q.
My daughter is going six yrs old this Dec. 24, 2009 but one permanent teeth is erupting about 2mm behind the lower incisor. My dentist says that the milk tooth infront of the permanent tooth will just fall-off but 3months passed and still the milk teeth is there. My 34yr old wife has a lower teeth formation which is on top of the other incisors and hopefully my daughter will not follow. Please tell me if I need to let her milk tooth be removed so that the permanent one will have its place. On the other hand, will this removal cause side-effects and what are those? I need your advice.

Do I need to scale and polish before teeth whitening?

Monday, November 30th, 2009
Q.
Hi, Assuming that I have very good oral hygiene would it be necessary for me to have a scale and polish just before having my teeth whitened at a dentist (using Zoom) if I had a scale and polish 10 days prior?
