I have recently given up smoking and have booked to have laser teeth whitening. My teeth have nicotine stains so i would like to have a scale and polish first to get optimum results. Can i have both treatments on the same day?,

I have not been to the dentist for 12 years due to a very bad experience. Ihave receding gums and a scale and polish causes me so much pain that I have been too scared to have one again the pain was hoorendous and I have developed a phobia about this over the years. Is there any suggestion as to what I could do to make it less painful whether it be sedation or another way. had orthodontics treatment about a year ago and a small part of my gum has receeded – right do to the edge and is causeing conserable pain – the tooth next ot it looks to be going the same way – I cant get an appointment for at least a month and then that will only be a consultaion – so will be quite a while until the problem is resolved. do you have thoughts on my best course of action? many thanks

You have to try and keep the area clean and it may be worth trying to use something small and soft like a baby’s tooth brush in this area. It sounds like you may need to consider a gum graft to resolve this problem.
