As A Student I Have Limited Funds But My Teeth Are Causing Confidence Issues, Am I Entitled To Cheap Treatment?

Wednesday, April 10th, 2013
Q.

Hi
I was wondering whether or not there are any discounted prices available for students/young adults that are not earning a great amount? I have been needing to fix my teeth for years now, however I haven’t been able to afford it. I have extremely low self esteem due to my teeth, it greatly affects my social life as I have no confidence to talk in front of new people, due to my crooked teeth. Fixing my teeth is a necessity, though I have no way to pay such a great amount of money. Would you kindly suggest any routes I can possibly take, without needing to pay such huge sums of money? Thank you.

I am registered disabled, can I get dental implants through the NHS?

Thursday, December 6th, 2012
Q.

hi dr moore. i am 47 and have no top teeth due to gum disease and as a result of domestic abuse as my ex-husband who knocked a lot of them out. i have a full top denture but it is uncomfortable, and does not stay in place even using denture fixatives. i do not seem to be able to use my front teeth for biting they just don;t work. how much would implants cost? and would it be possible to get any assistance from the nhs given my circumstances? i currently am on the nhs list with my dentist and am registered disabled. i have tried numerous denture fixatives but none of them stick them in well enough.Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Can the NHS help me with crowns and veneers following an accident?

Wednesday, December 5th, 2012
Q.

Hi,
I was involved in an RTA last February, I lost 1 tooth and had a lot of damage to my other 4 front teeth. The NHS dentist I went to did (in my opinion) a really poor job. They patched them up with filler, using two different types so they don’t even match! The sizes are wrong and the bridge he put in sticks out like a sore thumb. I had root canal on both my upper two front and and the damage on one was half the tooth missing. I’ve had to go back as the filler has come off twice. Surely I need crowns or veneers? I cannot afford to go private. Where do I stand getting this sorted on the NHS? I’m 31 and have taken really good care of my teeth, check ups every 6 months/brushing/flossing. I’ve never even needed a filling so this is all very upsetting.

As I’m a student I can’t afford to pay for the dental treatment I need, what should I do?

Wednesday, December 5th, 2012
Q.

Hello, I have been interested in getting dental treatment for some time.

A tooth at the front is slightly brought forward in comparison to the other one, and there is a slight gap, I have researched and visited several dentists about this whom have advised me, however as I am a student all of these costs are out of my reach.

Could you please provide me with your advice in regards to this matter as I would like to deal with this issue now rather than later.

I look forward to hearing from you

Sam

I’m 13 and looking into receiving braces, can I get them for free?

Tuesday, November 6th, 2012
Q.

hey there dr patel, i wanted to ask if i can i get braces for free if im under 18? and do you do a monthly plan? The thing is that my teeth are not straight and it is worrying me because i don’t want problems when i am older.  i am under 18 and i dont mind going for 6-month smiles or invisalign but obviously it is more expensive to have them,  so maybe a monthly plan will be better? and i also wanted to ask if you do metal braces? because many teens here have metal braces but i wouldn’t mind and by the way im only 13.
that’s about it really i hope you reply soon and urm, where are you located? 🙂

thanks in advance 🙂
take careee

Can I receive all the treatment I need before heading off with the army in January?

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2012
Q.

hi there doctor Andrew, here is my problem:  I have not been to the dentist in around 10 years as I am too scared but have finally decided to go as two of my bottom molars have broken all the way down to the gum line. Also one on the other side of my mouth has suffered the same problem. One of the top molars is the same, my question is will the dentist make fun of me? As i feel very embarrassed about going to the dentist. I want my teeth sorting as I am going to Afghanistan in January with the army so I need to have them out so nothing puts me off when I’m there. I am in a lot of pain with my mouth currently and would love to get the treatment I need as soon as possible! Can I get the treatment I need even though i’m on the nhs?

Friday, September 14th, 2012
Q.

Hi, I am inquiring about how you may be able to help me. I currently do not have a dentist and have a chipped front tooth I was also previously told that i will need a bridge as my 2 bottom front teeth will need to be removed due to my gums receding to far. I am a 29 yr old woman and this is causing me a lot of pain and self consciousness. I need to find a cosmetic dentist who can offer me the treatment I need and have rea a lot about yours. Please can you e mail me your prices for a bridge and a veneer and what my payment options are. I am apparently not entitled to this on the nhs as I am in full time employment. I would like to get this sorted out as soon as possible. I t is affected my life on a daily basis aswell as causing a lot of pain. I hope you can help

Kind Regards

Should I have my tooth extracted by an NHS dentist or see if it can be saved by a specialist?

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2012
Q.

I have a root canal that has failed and my NHS dentist has advised I can have the tooth removed on the NHS or see a specialist who will advise if it can be saved, the cost of which I would have to pay for as a private patient. The root canal was an NHS treatment originally, do I have any recourse for action as this has failed with the original dentist?? What is the likely cost of specialist treatment and what are the alternative options like an implant rather than paying for the cost of trying to save the tooth??

I had a negative experience with the dentist many years ago and my teeth are now severly decayed, what are my options?

Monday, August 20th, 2012
Q.

Hi Dr Moore, I had a negative experience with my dentist in the 70’s involving sedation and as a result have only been to the dentists once since then (im 41 now) I have several decayed teeth and am in constant pain and can only eat soft food, Im at the stage now where i’d like all my teeth extracted and dentures fitted, I’ve never been able to afford it before but now after losing my job I have a NHS tax credit exemption certificate for the first time in my life so I really need to sort this before it finally pushes me over the edge. I’d like to know if I’d be able to get this done on the NHS or will they try to talk me out of it with partial dentures? Also will they extract all the teeth in one hit as theres no way I could leave the house with no teeth. How much will this cost as I realise i’d have to pay something towards this! Thanks for your time!
