I Need My Veneers Replacing And Have No Choice. Would This Still Be A Considered Cosmetic By The NHS?

Thursday, July 24th, 2014
Q.

Hi there. I wondered if you could help me?
I had an accident approximately 10 years ago and knocked my 2 front teeth out. I had veneers fitted and unfortunately I have fractured one and both have dropped considerably. I need to go to my dentist but wondered if you could give me some advice as I’m told you can not get veneers on the NHS as they are for cosmetic reasons, however I originally had them on the NHS and as they need replacing due to them coming to the end if the life it’s not for cosmetic reasons but more through medical or through no choice. Can you confirm if this is true and approximately how much would it cost? Thanks.

How Do I Get Rid Of The Yellowish Colour On My Teeth? Would My NHS Dentist Whiten Them?

Monday, June 2nd, 2014
Q.

Hi there Dr Hughes. I need your advice and help. I am 18 years old and have stained yellow teeth. My front tooth was a baby tooth and has been extracted  a few months ago and now you can see the tooth in the gum which is taking ages to come down. I was wondering how do I get rid of the yellowish colour on my teeth, I am a NHS patient. Would my dentist be able to whiten them? If so, how much would all of this cost? I hate smiling or even talking it’s just embarrassing. Hope you can help. Thank you for your time.

I find it impossible to wear my dentures

Friday, April 19th, 2013
Q.

I eventually gave in and let my dentist cut back my 2 front teeth and have dentures. I can’t wear them. They feel too thick and make me choke. The teeth on dentures are very small, the size my original teeth have become due to wear. I cannot smile and show teeth when they are in as they are too short. and not a very nice colour. I kept putting off having dentures as I was worried about having them. They are only the top set. After trying with dentures, I ended up getting an abscess on my bottom wisdom tooth that had a GOLD crown (which I have since found out isn’t really gold)and had to have it taken out at the hospital I no longer have any confidence i n him after my last visit last year despite being with him over 30 years. I was an NHS patient but will soon have a small windfall to enable me to go private.

Would I be able to have braces free on the NHS if I am 20 years of age?

Thursday, December 2nd, 2010
Q.

Hello, I have a tax exemption cert and have also just had a baby. I have a really bad overbite and my bottom teeth are extremely crooked. My teeth are sensitive and I get a lot of problems caused by this. I am very self conscious about this and just wondered if there is anyway I could get a brace on the nhs, i would have anything just to straighten my teeth up but cannot afford to pay! I am 20 years old.

Will the NHS provide cosmetic dentistry?

Friday, November 26th, 2010
Q.

I am 57 and feel quite young except for my teeth. They are in a terrible state and it spoils every day for me. I cannot afford anything other than NHS treatment and feel that life is just passing me by because of my mouth. Please could you suggest anywhere I could go that would give me a sympathetic hearing. I don’t care how far I would have to travel I just want to be able to smile.
