My bad teeth is influencing my daily life please suggest on my issues.

Q.
I am wondering what help is available to me. I had to have my top teeth from the canine teeth backwards out 10 years ago due to absesses. Since then I have suffered depression with no confidence and can not form a proper relationship in case anybody finds out that I wear a denture. I have been to a dental hospital who estimated it would cost £30,000 with bone taken from my hip. I have heard of other ways of having implants cheaper without the bone from my hip. Would the NHS be able to contribute because I have suffered with depression for all these years and lost out on 10 years of my life? Every dentist I have gone to have been very unsympathetic and it has come to the point where I can not bear daily life because of this. I think of my teeth 24/7 and it has restricted my life in so many ways. I would be grateful of any advice you can give me or who to go to next. I can not afford to go private Please help.

Anxious to know exact condition of my teeth and treatment.

Thursday, November 26th, 2009
Q.
I have quite a complex dental history and received 10 years of orthodontist care…. I had two operations when I was younger as I had an extra set of front teeth that were blocking the other set coming through. I had chains attached to my front teeth while they were still in the gums (am sure there’s a dental term for this!) and they were gradually pulled down with a brace. I didn’t get my front teeth properly until I was 17 and was brace free from 18, wearing a night retainer until I was 19-20. I had root canal treatment on my right front tooth approximately 18 months ago and then a replacement root canal 12 months ago…. through the NHS I requested to go back and see my old orthodontist at the dental hospital as I was concerned about the movement in my front teeth and how it had become discoloured. And I was unhappy with my NHS dentist… These are some of the comments made by my orthodontist in his letter to my regular dentist… I have: – a mild anterior open bite – somewhat spaced malocclusion – a mildly rotated left maxillary central incisor – a discoloured right central incisor I was discharged by my orthodontist but he is happy to see me again, and he has offered to correct the anterior and buccal spacing if this is something I wanted to persue. … and my gums are now receeding! My right front tooth has recently been causing me pain again and I am due to see my NHS dentist late december. At the last root canal treatment I had on my front tooth I also had it whitened but it has returned to its previous discoloured state. I have been thinking about veneers for a long time as I dislike the discolouring, wonky teeth and spaces BUT I’m a little bit clueless as to what would be the best option for me…. It is my two front teeth that concern me most, the discolouring and spacing. Any advice or suggestions would be really appreciated.

Should I choose non NHS dentures or NHS dentures

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009
Q.
I have just been told that my remaining teeth need to be removed and have both upper and lower dentures. I am considering implants but at this time the cost is an issue. I would like an opinion on whether to pay the extra for non nhs dentures in the interim or to have nhs dentures until next year when I can have the implants. Thank You

Chipped tooth has a temporary filling can I have veneers on it?

Friday, November 20th, 2009
Q.
My toddler ran at me with a heavy toy and chipped my top front tooth so it’s on the diagonal. I have had a temporary filling from an emergency NHS dentist. ( I’ve never had a filling before so know nothing about the proceedure etc. ) I saw my dentist today and he informs me that he will be able to do a new filling and make it look like a normal tooth. The rest of the tooth is fine. He said I won’t need a veneer, although could have one done later. I am worried the filling won’t be strong enough (my dentist said I would have to be careful biting into apples etc) What should I do. At the moment I’m finding the temporary filling very wierd and uncomfortable. Would a veneer be a better option or should I stick with the filling?

Half my front tooth is broken and NHS is the only option

Thursday, November 12th, 2009
Q.
I have recently had one of my front teeth break off half way down, and I basically have a mouth full of fillings including a root canal job. My confidence has been knocked so much and I really don’t know what can be done to help me under the NHS? I’m really hoping you can advise me as it’s getting me really down.

Wisdom teeth is coming through and need a braces is it covered under NHS?

Thursday, November 12th, 2009
Q.
Hello there, Sorry to bother you but I have two quick questions if you could answer them please? I have previously had fixed braces (both) when I was younger, my bottom brace only stayed on for 4 weeks instead of 6 months as planned. I then had them both removed (after having top on for 1 1/5yrs prior to bottom) and wore the retainer 24 hrs a day for the year. I then went for the yearly check up point and my retainer was taken off of me. My teeth went wonky within months, and I have been too scared to go back. I get really upset about my teeth and suffered alot with braces to still have wonky teeth. I am 19 and in full time education and have swapped dentist now. My wisdom teeth have been coming through for a year and causing me grief, will they fit braces with the wisdom teeth growing through and are they likely to get funded by the NHS? Sorry its so long and hope its understandable for you to answer. Many thanks

Thursday, November 12th, 2009
Q.
Hi After years of neglect ,all my top teeth have badly decayed ,and broken off . Im so embarrassed about this ,and hence cant face a dentist because of the shame that I let my teeth get into this state. Unfortunately I cant afford private ,so will have to go nhs , I would like to know what is available ,as I know I am probably going to have to have them all taken out and have dentures, but I have been told nhs wont cover this? Also ,what would you advise me to tell the dentist before my appointment ,as I want to let him know the state my mouth is in before he actually sees them ,im so depressed about this and really need some help .
