Cost of crown replacement with NHS

Friday, April 3rd, 2009
Q.
I had a crown fitted (right front tooth, top) about 30 years ago which included work into the gum (including metal pin fitted). Two days ago, I tripped and fell and broke the whole crown off from the gum. I would like to know how much a replacement would cost, baring in mind I am currently unemployed and appreciate costs normally run into hundreds of pounds? I am currently not registered with a dentist and wonder if it could be done on the NHS?

Is my dentist giving me the right shades on my crowns?

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009
Q.
Hi, I am in the midle of extensive cosmetic dental work which is very expensive. My dentist says my crowns are made in switzerland hence the 10 day period wearing temporary crowns. The first 6 front crowns he did are very white, and i am certain that he ordered shade A1 but the ones he has done the preparation for this week he has ordered shade of B1, I queried this and he says that they are the whitest ones available, however they dont look the same shade to me and I have a feeling he is trying to supply the NHS crowns and charge me private prices. He has just fitted a B1 shade crown and it is definately not as white as the first 6 he fitted. How can i be sure that he is not fitting NHS crowns insteadof the handmae ones he says come from switzerland? would i be able to rtell the difference? is there a B1 shade for NHS crowns? I am paying a fortune for this work, not to mention the pain i am going through to have a nice smile. Can you advise? please?

I am being charged £300 for having a crown at NHS

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009
Q.
My daughter was 6 when she fell and broke her front tooth. The dentist would only fill the gap and said that it couldn’t be crowned until her teeth had stopped growing around when she is 16. Last month I enquired about her having the crown and was told no problem but would cost me £300. I asked why as she received free dental care and was told it was because the repair is cosmetic. I find that really difficult to believe. She has a really dark line that shows where the filling has been and is now really conscious and yet I can’t afford the cost of a crown. Is the information I have received correct?

Can I get veneers free on the NHS?

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009
Q.
Can I get veneers free on the NHS? One of my front teeth is discoloured and my dentist has said that it is partially dead – therefore I may need root canal treatment before I have veneers fitted. I am a full time student, so would the NHS pay for all/some of the treatment and how do I apply??

I have a crown fitted by an NHS dentist, which has now fallen out four times

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009
Q.
I have a crown fitted by an NHS dentist, which has now fallen out four times. On average 2 months after being refitted. It already has a metal pole on it. I can’t afford implants, but is it worth getting it refixed privately.

I have a curved root and NHS does not have the instruments to perform root canal

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009
Q.
I am in the middle of root canal work but have been told that my tooth root is curved and that the instruments used to treat a curved root arent available on the nhs.i have seen my x ray and the root is indeed curved. the dentist says this may be because i grind that side of my jaw during the night. he states he can refer me to a private dentist, but the cost of this work would be around £800 – £1000. is this correct? and could this not be completed by another dentist with the right equipment on the nhs.the tooth has also now cracked and im in need of a crown whereas i was just having a cap, this is costing £198 so i dont really want to be spending alot more than that. could you advise on this please?
