I am 32 years old and need an ‘invisible’ brace, can you recommend one?

Friday, April 27th, 2012
Q.

do lingual braces work for strong
bottom teeth, where invisalign would not. it has been recommended to use fixed braces on the front but working in public relations i am not happy with this option, therefore i am happy to try lingual braces. My bottom teeth require improving and my bite is not good. I do have strong teeth but as a 32 year old i am not happy to go around with an obvious brace. i am receiving very contradictory advice from various orthodontists and need clarification. i was seen by a very experienced orthodontist yesterday who didnt feel that lingual braces were very good and that tore up your tongue. I know he is a very good orthodontist and has had great success with traditional fixed braces but he didnt seem to understand my problem. I know he treats a lot of children and to be honest they are normally quite happy to have a traditional front brace. any feedback would be gratefully appreciated.

Is my orthodontist giving me the correct price for Invisalign braces?

Monday, March 5th, 2012
Q.

Hi,

After a few consultations with my dentist/orthodontist, he has recommended straightening my two front, upper teeth by either Invisalign or Lingual braces (I refuse to have ‘traintracks’ or even ceramic braces).

My lower teeth are fine, but he has suggested having Invisalign/Lingual braces on them as well, so that they still align with my top teeth – he said that it may cause problems down the line.

Is this normal? I have no reason to distrust him, it’s just he has now said the cost will be between £5000 – £6000!

Do you think I should get a second opinion on this? I want straight teeth, but I doubt very much whether I will be able to afford it.

Thanks.

How much would lingual six month smile braces cost?

Tuesday, September 6th, 2011
Q.

Hi there Dr Rob

i was wondering if i could get a quick estimate? how much roughly would lingual six month smile braces cost. I’ve found estimates for normal six month smiles in a place in Birmingham for around £1400, im not sure if this would be an accurate quote. i was wondering whether the cost of lingual six month braces normally be considerably higher than this? Ive been online and have seen both the dental suites in leicester as well as one in loughborough are advertising that they do this type of lingual six month smile treatment. i was hoping you would you know of any place in/around birmingham who also offer this service?

My daughter has just had a brace fitted, but now her crowns have cracked, what should she do?

Friday, August 19th, 2011
Q.

my daughter has lingual behind her teeth hidden braces at the top,she also has 4crowns two top middle and one either side, her braces have only been in 10days and already her two side crowns have fine cracks along the bottom, does this mean she is not suitable for braces, and should just get new crowns an teeth whitened to make her smile nice, as she is also meant to be having bottom braces fitted soon, but if the top crowns cannot hold a brace without crumbling, not much point in wasting her money, she is 40yrs old, what is your opinion please.

I think I should have gone with Lingual braces instead of Invisalign, can I change treatments?

Friday, June 17th, 2011
Q.

I am a 25 yr. old male with spacing of my upper front teeth as well as an open bite developed from a tongue thrust condition. This also causes my chin to appear recessed somewhat. I have been in Invisalign treatment for about 6 months. I already had mild lip and chin strain due to the open bite. Upon wearing the aligners I felt a lot more discomfort and strain with the added thickness of the aligners over my teeth. I explained this to my orthodontist who suggested I could just wear one aligner at a time, 12hrs. a day. I have been doing this but I feel like the compensation the muscles around my mouth had to make for the aligners changed the shape and appearance of my chin and lower lip muscles causing some “rippling.” I now wish I had gone with Lingual braces which go behind the teeth, but they are not provided by this orthodontist. Is it possible to seek another orthodontist providing lingual braces and just get them done on the top teeth and continue invisalign on the bottom? I have also been looking into having a chin advancement (genioplasty) done to correct the recessed chin and hopefully relieve some of the lip strain. But could you give me any information on types of surgery that can be done to correct the open bite itself? As I have been told braces alone cannot correct the open bite. Thanks so much for your help.

Will lingual braces change my facial structure?

Monday, March 28th, 2011
Q.

I am planning to get lingual braces, but I am afraid of the changes my facial features will have as a end result of a two year treatment plan. My orothodontist is telling me that if the treatment is done correctly there will be no change in my facial structure, yet I see many accounts on forums on the internet of lingual brace users with facial changes. I am to have four extractions (two behind bilateral, upper canine teeth, and two behind lower, bilateral canine teeth). I like my youthful face with high cheek bones…will this treatment hallow out my features and make me look older?

Can home bleaching be carried out with lingual retainers effectively?

Q.

Hi there, I wonder if I can use the Home Laser Teeth Whitening kits. I have permanent brace at the back of my teeth – which was recommended by my dentist to support my teeth. Thanks

What can I do about my dissatisfaction with my orthodontic treatment?

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011
Q.

Hi,

I am currently having orthodontic procedure – I have finished with my upper invisalign and I am still wearing Lingual braces on the lower. I had an open bite and wanted to get it sorted, I am with a top london practice and only underwent the treatment as i was assured that the open bite would be corrected. I was quoted a timescale of 18 – 24 months for the lingual but has been nearly 3 years now and im really not happy about how it is going, the open bit in my view has not been corrected sufficiently – its now half bite on bit and half open bite. After a bit of reading up I think i should of had ligual on both upper and lower and then had bands applied which (so ive read) will correct minor bite problems..What do you suggest? have ligual applied to the top or is there any other way of correcting this as i am now thinking about some kind of cosmetic dentistry when the braces finally come off (!)… And yes I have posed the question to my dentist doing the work and he sugested cosmetic which i find strange as that wasnt really the idea i had in mind – hence i went for braces. Any comments appreciated. Kind regards,
