My daughter is getting bullied about her yellow teeth, what should we do?

Thursday, March 3rd, 2011
Q.

Dear Dr Solanki

My daughter is 14 and her teeth are yellow. She has not needed a brace has always been meticulous when cleaning her teeth. She is not aware of herself as some 14 year olds are and I have noticed a significant change over the last few years. Tonight’, finally she broke down in tears and says that her teeth are awful.
Despite reassurance she tells me several children have made nasty comments at school. Where do i start? Your support would be hugely appreciated

I was told that I should’ve been given more whitener to use at home, what should I do?

Saturday, December 4th, 2010
Q.

I had made teeth whitened at the dentist using the Zoom 2 technique in Dec 2010, I was very pleased with the results since they went 7 shades lighter, and they werent that bad in the 1st place. I was given one application of de-sentising solution and one application of whitener to use 48hrs later. Two months later my teeth are the same colour as before, I dont drink red wine, tea, coffee or smoke and was wondering if this was normal. I look after my teeth and rang the dental surgery this morning who said I should have had more whitener to use at home, could I have your advice please

Do home dental whitening kits that are not peroxide based have effective results?

Wednesday, November 24th, 2010
Q.

I have recently paid my dentist for at home dental whitening. He has given me Vitent Safe & white gel, rather than traditional peroxide based. I am a little dissapointed as this is an OTC product.
Do you rate this as a good product, will I get as good results?

I don’t know it I’m afraid

Would laser whitening treatment on my sensitive teeth help to make them whiter?

Wednesday, November 10th, 2010
Q.
Hi – I completed a 2 week professional home whitening kit approx 4 years ago (provided by my dentist) since then I have had a few “overnight” top up treatments. I am finding that my teeth appear to be no longer as white as before. However, the last time I used the home gel (10%) I experinced a lot of sensitivity afterwards. Might an instant laser whitening treatment at the dentist be a better option perhaps> Many thanks. ,

I had my teeth whitened and they were great at first, but have since regressed. What can I do to make whitening last longer?

Monday, September 20th, 2010
Q.
Hello, I have a question about teeth whitening. 3 months ago I went to a dentist and had them perform the “Zoom” teeth whitening treatment. My teeth prior to the zoom were yellow (pretty bad). Yet after the two hour treatment I had movie star whiteness to my teeth!. There was a difference of about 11 shades at least. They were as white as can be for a few days, however, I then started to have some serious regression. Now mind you that I used to be a tea drinker and smoker, but never over the past 2 years have I had a cigarette, or any alcohol, nor tea, nor coffee, or anything that would case my teeth to stain. Therefore, the regression my teeth were going through had nothing to do with those substances that darken your teeth. So since the three months since I had the Zoom treatment done my teeth are brighter (about 5 shades) than the yellow teeth I had before, but there is still a yellow tint to them, and they are nowhere near the level I had when I had that bright hollywood style for the first few days after I left the dentist following my Zoom treatment. So my question is…is there anyway I can not only achieve but also maintain that bright smile for long durations, like months a year at a time. I did also buy a take home bleach kit from the same dentist to try and help maintain my pearly white teeth, but the kit only gets my teeth a few shades whiter, which only lasts for 12 hours before the whiteness is gone and it goes into regression. Please help, all the treatments I’ve tried have only got my teeth white temporarly. And thank you for taking the time to read this doctor.,

How long after using the whitening treatment should I avoid ingesting food/drink with staining potential?

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010
Q.
I am currently undertaking home whitening with bleach supplied by the denist in tailor made dental trays. 1 hour a day. How long after treatment should I avoid ingesting food/drink with staining potential. Any further during and aftercare advice would be greatly appreciated. I have post operative hypthyroidism and hypoparathyroidisim for which I am on total replacement thyroxin and Sandocal (effervescent calcium) and one alpha to maintain my calcium levels. I am an ex nurse and just thought I’d run this by you though I don’t think my condition would have an adverse or corrosive effect when teeth whitening as I can’t maintain serum calcium levels due to no parathyroid hormone. So can’t extract calcium from bone when needed have to absorp for GI tract to maintain levels. Love my teeth and as just enhancing them as hit 40 want to be sure I am not damaging them. Any advice appreciated. Know I am rare but thought I’d just ask incase you’d encountered anyone like me (a consequence of surgical error). Thanks,
