I have periodontal bone loss where do i go from here as i was hoping to get implant

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009
Q.
I have periodontal disease and have been attending a dentist and dental hospital for the past 3 years, my front tooth is now loose and I can’t understand why these dentists have allowed this to get to this stage. I decided to try a new dentist last week and found out that I have periodontal bone loss, the dentist said my front tooth is hanging on by just a couple of mm. I’ve been reading about BOST and was wondering is the bone in my mouth too far gone for this treatment, if so, where do I go from here as I was hoping that I would be able to get implants.

i have very small gaps between the teeth will they continue to grow? any advise

Monday, April 20th, 2009
Q.
Hi I recently gave up smoking and just before christmas noticed i had some very small gaps appearing in between my teeth. I saw 2 dentists who told me there was nothing wrong and it was natural age progression ( I am 30) I paid privatly and saw another dentist who referred me to his hygenist who i saw last week for a sonic scale and polish. She told me my gums were slightly inflamed but when i go back next week she said the scale and polish would be all i need. My gums are now a healthy pink but the gaps have got bigger which was explained to me may happen. Is there anything i can do to fill these gaps as even though they are small I really notice them. Also what has caused this as when she did the probe to check my gums there is no bone loss and they were normal depths. Now the gaps are there will they continue to grow? Any advise would be great as this has taken over my life the last month and has really gotten me down.. Many thanks

Can you advise if laser whitening would not cause any more damage to my gums

Monday, April 20th, 2009
Q.
Hi i have had gum disease before, but been to the dentist and now removed, although my gums are reseeding from my teeth, i have used bleaching before, which i think has done this to my gums. I am interested in teeth whiting but will this cause my gums to do the same thing. I also have a gene disorder called xxy which is proven to give you bad gum disease which i have talked to my dentist about, and she tells me that is not possible. Can you advise if laser whitening would not cause any more damage to my gums. Regards

my gums are receding due to over brushing can you advice me

Monday, April 20th, 2009
Q.
Dear Dr I am 34 years old and, from 2006 onwards, have been experiencing gum recession on the gums of the upper and lower jaw, from the incisors back. There is some root exposure on two teeth on the lower jaw. I have always looked after my teeth and my current dentist describes me as one of his best patients. He attributes the recession to overbrushing. Until recently I suffered from anxiety disorder and I suspect this may also have contributed, as I often clenched my teeth in my sleep (and sometimes still do). Following a phase of underbrushing due to my worry about the recession, I had a tutorial with my dental hygienist to ‘relearn’ my brushing technique and, since November, I have also been flossing, more or less on a daily basis. I am doing my best to ensure that I brush and floss as thoroughly but also as carefully as possible. However, the recession does not yet appear to have stabilised and I am very concerned about the long-term health of my gums and teeth, as well as about the aesthetic aspect. Is it likely that, despite my efforts to brush and floss carefully and thoroughly, an inadquate technique is still causing recession, especially where the flossing is concerned (on a few occasions the tape slipped and caused bleeding)? Or is it more likely to be the ongoing product of past overbrushing in my teens and twenties? Also, would you recommend that I obtain a second opinion, either from another dentist or from a peridontal specialist? I am very worried that I am may not be getting appropriate advice or treatment and am anxious to prevent the problem getting worse. I have begun to consider cosmetic treatment but I understand, of course, that treatment and prevention of underlying causes are of primary importance. I am a junior academic on a modest salary and therefore somewhat restrained in terms of funds. Nevertheless, I am willing to make a significant investment (timewise and financially) to deal with my problem. If you are able to recommend a respected dentist I would be immensely grateful (I live in Aberystwyth, west Wales, and I currently visit a private practice in Newtown). I would also be prepared to visit your own practice. Any advice or recommendations you are able to give me would be greatly appreciated.
