i have periodontal gum disease am i still eligable to have dental implants

Q. Hi there. I have periodontal gum disease and would like to know if i am still eligable to have dental implants. I have been told that my teeth will fall out very soon because of my gum disease even though i am only 19 years old. Please help me by getting back to me ASAP, i understand you are extremely busy. Regards

A. A majority of implants I place are in people with periodontal disease.  The key is the amount of bone you have.  We often have to re grow your bone first and then place implants.  The procedures take longer but also last longer.  After treatment is very important you maintain the new teeth with regular dental and hygiene visits.
