Are the newly grown gums strong enough to hold the new tooth?

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009
Q.
When my son was a toddler he knocked his two bottom teeth on a table. They were not knocked out, but were very loose. Luckily they were okay and becam stronger, he is now 4 and a few months back he opened a bottle with a pull lid with his teeth. One of the two teeth became lose. I thought it would just fall out, months later it is still just lose, causing no pain. The other day I noted his gum was receeded. I assumed this was due to the wobbly tooth. This morning, it fell out, the tooth that is. I am worried that when his new teeth advenualy grows through the gum will still be low and not hold his tooth. Will his gum grow back, and hold his new tooth?

Is dentures a best option for my sensitive teeth

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009
Q.
I have gum disease and tomorrow I am having yet another tooth taken out from the top this will only leave 7 teeth, no back teeth. It is difficult to eat meat now and I cannot bear my teeth to be cleaned as they are so sensitive. I feel my only option now is to have the 7 teeth removed and wear a top denture. I do have a phobia about the Dentist and at 50 now it will never improve. My Dentist has now realised that I cannot put up with the pain of them being cleaned and would need each tooth to be numbed. Do you think my best option is to go for a top denture?

Is there a way of preventing receding gums other than brushing and flossing

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009
Q.
Hello! I am 21 years old and I recently had two root canals done on my lower right side(molar and premolar), but due to insurance issues I am waiting until January to get crowns for them. I have realized that my molars on the left side(both top and bottom) look a little worn down on the lingual and buccal side. I believe my dentist has shaved the cusps of the two root canal-ed teeth and this might have messed up my bite(I can’t really feel it while chewing though). I wanted to know if this could be the actual case. I’m worried that my other teeth are going to get really ugly by the time I can get crowns. Also I have realized that teeth with crowns tend to have receding gums. Is there a way to prevent that other than the regular brushing and flossing? Thank you

My teeth whitening kit has completely receeded my gums Is this normal?

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009
Q.
I recently used a home teeth whitening kit that apparently is dental grade. I trimmed back the teeth trays to the gum line as recommended but after using it only 3 times (for a third of the recommended time), I was horrified to find my gums have receeded completely and noticable back, as though they have been burnt off. It does not hurt. Is this normal?! Will they grow back? Should I ever use the product again? Please help! I am very worried about this. Thank you very much.

Q.
Hello, over the last few years my gums have started to receed, as a result of this my teeth appear longer than normal. I visit my dentist regularly for a clean and maintain my own daily regime, but can’t see any significant improvement. Is there a more effective treatment for this. I am 39 years of age. Thank you.
