Are dentures my only option? Is it possible to utilize implants of any sort when bone loss and gum recession is a problem?

Monday, March 30th, 2009
Q.
Hi I am 53 and following a course of peridontal treatment, I’ve been advised that I have suffered considerable bone loss and loss of gum tissue through gum disease which has gradually worsened. The worst area where the gum recession is most noticable is around my top front 4 teeth, which are crowned. The recession has increased dramatically since the full mouth disinfection treatment (scaling & root planing with periochips). I’ve been advised that the bone loss I’ve suffered means that it would not be possible to resolve the problem with dental implants. Furthermore, it would also be difficult to get a successful outcome via either replacement crowns – or bone regeneration techniques. Fortunately, the problem is not evident when I am generally speaking. Unfortunately, I have a ‘gummy smile’, so the problem is immediately evident when I laugh. This is now making me very self-conscious, so I tend to smile when my mouth closed. Not easy for someone who relishes a good sense of humour….!! So my questions are: Do I need to be considering the ‘D’ word already? Are dentures my only option? Is it possible to utilize implants of any sort when bone loss and gum recession is a problem? Can you offer any advice as to my best way forward? Thanks in advance!

Implants sound ideal but so expensive. Do you offer a pay in instalment system and do you offer sedation

Q.
I have lost a few teeth in the past and suffer from gum disease. I attend an anesthetic clinic for treatment as I have a fear for dentists and they can sedate me. Im going to be having a plate fitted as Im losing my front teeth. Im only 39 but look 50 thanks to my teeth. Implants sound ideal but so expensive. Do you offer a pay in instalment system and do you offer sedation

I have a grade 2 mobility I need to get root canal done. Can i remove the tooth?

Sunday, March 29th, 2009
Q.
Hi, I have a grade 2 mobility of UR5 following gum disease and bone loss. I need a root canal treatment on this tooth but due to bone loss there is high probability that I might actually lose the tooth altogether (according to my dentist). My question: could I ask for the tooth to be removed now, rather than waiting and would I still need a root canal? THankyou for your time in advance

I have broken teeth swollen gums and very bad breath

Sunday, March 29th, 2009
Q.
Hi Don’t know if you can help me but I literally am at my very last resort I am 27 and since having a really bad experience as a child my teeth are ok to look at but I have broken teeth my gums are bright red and all lumpy, if I tilt my head down I can see down my gums. I have terrible BAD BREATH which has caused me a lot of personal problems my partner and father of my daughter has left, I stopped going out with friends I have completely shut myself off from everyone I cant speak to customers face to face at work due to the smell I am becoming very lonely and stuck. I honestly and genuinely have bad thoughts of not living I cant see a way out I have been my dentist it took me all my time getting there as I am so scared. I am desperate for some one to help me as my 6 year old daughter dosent like to give me a kiss which breaks my heart I am single but wont meet anyone with a mouth like this. My family make nasty comments about my breath and teeth. Even standing in sopping lines and someone talks to me I have to pretend I haven’t heard them and I am very friendly and feel awful for doing this. I am so worried about this as I can not afford dental plans although I work I am also a single parent I just cant do it and I don’t know what to do I am so scared at the fact I think of worse things to solve this problem can someone help me please. Many Thanks
