My Canines Stick Out, I Need My Teeth Straightened. What Braces Should I Have To Boost My Confidence?

Wednesday, April 30th, 2014
Q.

Hi Andrew, I have canine teeth that stick out a lot on my top teeth and therefore have resulted in slight crowding of my front top teeth. My bottom front teeth are also a little crowded. However, I am not sure which braces will be best for me as it’s only my front teeth which are not straight. I am really worried about my teeth as I don’t like smiling and they affect my confidence in public situations a lot.
I am not keen on having the standard metal braces as I don’t want them to look too obvious. I will be happy to pay £1500 or less to straighten my teeth. Which braces do you think I should have?

I Used To Suck My Thumbs And Now I My Bite Is Misplaced. Will My Dentist Let Me Have Braces?

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2014
Q.

Hello Andrew. I’m 14 turning 15 and my teeth are pretty straight for the most part but my incisors are a bit crooked but they look straight. My problem is that I have a misplaced mid-line because I sucked my thumbs for 11 years. I just noticed a couple weeks ago. I measured it and it’s about 3.5mm off. It also is very irritating to bite because the lip also feels weird. My mum pointed out that my face is now a bit asymmetrical. Will my dentist allow me to get braces? I hope I can, I really need this fixed. Thank you on advance for your reply.

I Would Like To Know The Different Costs Of Fixed And Invisible Braces?

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. I was just wondering how much teeth straightening would cost. I did have braces when I was 16 but my teeth have spaced out since then. How long would the procedure take and what is the likely cost. What are the different prices for each brace treatment? Invisible braces, fixed braces e.g. and so on? Which is the cheapest and does that include everything involved in the treatment. Would I go straight to an orthodontist for this, or would I get a referral through my dentist first? Thanks.

I’ve Been Quoted £4500 For Full Braces Treatment Over Two Years. Is This Correct Or Am I Being Overcharged?

Tuesday, April 8th, 2014
Q.

Hi,

I recently had a consultation for Fast Braces. After getting my OPG scan done I was told I didn’t qualify for Fast Braces and my only other realistic option would be conventional train tracks.

I’ve been quoted £4500 for the full works for a treatment plan of two years. If accepted for the finance plan, I would need to pay 30% upfront with the remainder due over the next ten months.  Based on the information I’ve given what I would like to know is, is the cost correct or am I being overcharged?  Is there anything I should be concerned about going forward?

I just want to make sure I’m making the right decision.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

My Teeth Were Weakened By Braces When I Was Young. Is There Any Chance I Would Be Entitled To NHS Implants?

Friday, January 17th, 2014
Q.

I am 27 and when I was a child I had fixed braces and because they were left on for too long they made my teeth week and when I had to get them removed as half the front enamel came off. Since then going into adult life has been an uphill struggle, I now only have 6 teeth left in my mouth and am forced to wear a denture which I find really hurting. I can’t even wear my bottle one as its too painful with this information would I be entitled to free dental implants on the NHS. Having no teeth really hurts and I wish I could do more but I feel at times I don’t want to smile cause I know my teeth are gone and I don’t have the confidence I once had. I’d really like your advice.

Hello Doctor. My Sister Needs Braces Before Her Wedding. She Wants Ones Which Are Less Visible. What Treatment Would You Recommend?

Tuesday, October 29th, 2013
Q.

Hello Doctor, hope you are well! I’m writing to you to know about treatment for overcrowded teeth for my sister (27 years old). She does not want to opt for metal braces as they are visible and will not give her a good look for her wedding.

Please suggest what procedure will be best for her and which is less painful, giving her better look as well.

How long would treatment go and how frequently would she need to see doctor once treatment commences. If you have any details of cost of treatment, that’ll be of great help to plan! Awaiting your response.

Cheers.

I Want Straight And Attractive Teeth, What Is The Best Option For Me?

Wednesday, September 25th, 2013
Q.

Hi there, Dr Shaffie. I have had to google the names of each tooth so please bare with me haha. Basically, my upper right lateral incisor grew in behind the front row and so I had it removed, but now both my upper central incisor, left lateral incisor and both canine teeth are all crooked. My question is what would be my best option here and at what price would you estimate? Basically I would like to end up with 6 upper front teeth (including the tooth that was removed) looking straight and attractive as possible, thank you. I really hope you can get back to me.

Why Won’t My NHS Dentist Provide My 14-Year-Old With Dental Veneers?

Wednesday, July 31st, 2013
Q.

My 14 year old daughter has very dark brown markings and fluoride markings on all her teeth due to being infected as a child by fluoride in the water. She has already had 2 composites placed on her front 2 teeth in 2007 and has just completed finished her fixed orthodontics. Our dentist has said she isn’t allowed to get veneers on all her teeth on the NHS but the orthodontist has said she must have these dealt with and veneers is the only option. She has tried many other treatments for years which haven’t worked. Where do i stand legally regarding having veneers fitted on all her badly affected teeth on the NHS? Surely they can do something about this, it isn’t her fault that her teeth look like this. Thank you for your time.

Can I get cheap and fast orthodontic treatment?

Monday, July 22nd, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Patel,

I am 19 years old and a full time student, I had braces when I was 16 for 16 months. After my treatment I had removable retainers which I had to put on for 6 months and then asked to wear every night after that. However, my bottom teeth started to move slightly and now 3 years on my front teeth have come forward a lot more and my wisdom teeth are soon to be visible. So basically I was just wondering if I could have some sort of inexpensive treatment (since I would have to pay now) where my teeth are very straight and afterwards have a fixed retainer which would keep my teeth straight always? Any suggestions? I am lacking confidence because every time I try to smile or look in the mirror or even bite together since I can feel my upper and lower teeth touch each other.

What Are The Treatment Options For Inverted Canines?

Friday, July 19th, 2013
Q.

Hi Andrew. I currently have a gap on the side of my teeth. the canine on my left side is inverted, so when I smile facing forward, it looks like im missing a whole tooth if you understand what I mean? Thus there is a gap. you cannot see the inverted canine until you look at me smile from the side. is there a solution to this? my canine is inverted inward, so it looks like i have a missing tooth, and it has prevented me from smiling for the past 10 years. I smile with my mouth close, and often it comes across as if i’m not being genuine which has hindered me being able to make friends properly, especially in the area I live. How much would it cost for me to have this fixed? and what are the procedures I can pay for?
