Q.
I am having 2 implants fitted in my lower jaw-5&7 I think- in August. I had the old teeth/stumps extracted in April that supported a bridge which was continously coming off and my new dentist has recommended implants as my best option.I am very happy with my new dentist but find I am getting increasingly anxious about the actual implant procedure as he has booked me in for 3 hours to do this.I have asked if I can have sedation but he doesnt have these facilities at his clinic, so have opted for taking temazepam prior to the procedure. The last time I took this at the extraction process(one tablet half an hour before the procedure) the dentist was delayed several hours but I did feel less anxious but the treatment only took half an hour. I am worried that I can tolerate being conscious for three hours sitting in the dentist chair and in particular when he drills into the bones what sensation will I feel? Obviously he will give me several local injections to numb the pain but I wondered if I could take 2 temazepam or would this completely knock me out? I have also considered hypnotherapy beforehand would this be of help or a waist of money? I would welcome your opinion. With thanks. PS I am 55 and in general good health.
