Would i be better looking at implants for my teeth?

Saturday, September 26th, 2009
Q.
I am in the process of getting a bridge with 8 teeth fitted this was suggested due to the fact I previously had a bridge fitted to replace a canine tooth some years back. I recently had to have the other canine removed as I had an ulcer under this. This was treated a number of times over a few years but it continued to return so it was suggested this should be removed. It was then suggested that I have a full bridge covering 8 teeth all of the top front and the 2 at the other side of the removed teeth as this would look much better. My question is would I be better looking at implants? My present dentist says this is the best way forward for me stating implants my not look as good. Thanks in advance for your reply.

My dentist said i cannot do implant or bridge because of my small teeth can u advice?

Saturday, September 26th, 2009
Q.
6 months ago I lost a lower front tooth. My dentist gave me a temporary implant. I was told there was an infection on the root, so I was given antibiotics and yesterday had the root out and was given a hideous denture to wear that I am told I have to wear for up to one year (!!) He says he cannot do an implant or bridge because my teeth are too small – I certainly do not have small teeth – I have had a lot of work done over the years and no dentist has ever remarked on my ‘small’ teeth. I went back to my dentist’s surgery this morning to ask for help as I took the denture out to clean and cannot get it back in – it has cut into my gum and is pressing hard on my other teeth. I was told he was too busy so they made an appointment with another dentist in the practice. I went to the appointment sat waiting for one hour and was then told she refuses to see me as I am not her patient! (BAD PRACTICE!) That a dentist can leave a patient in this state is quite disgusting. My question is….Please could you tell me why I have to wait a year for an implant? My dentist has not explained properly and I do not understand. I am 44, consider myself fairly attractive, and have a big problem with wearing an awful denture (It hurts, does not fit properly and is very, very uncomfortable)

Is there any alternatives to a plate that covers the whole roof of my mouth

Saturday, September 26th, 2009
Q.
I knocked my 2 front teeth out when i was 11 and a dentist filed them down and put teeth in that were on posts. I am now 38 and one of the roots cracked and have had it removed in the last couple of days.I now have a whole plate with 1 front tooth and a couple of back teeth(which never really botherd me that they were missing). The plate feels horrible is there any alternatives to a plate that covers the whole roof of my mouth. I have read about implants but they are out of the question due to the cost. Many thanks for any advice you can give.

Ive a reacurring abcess under one of my teeth can you advise

Saturday, September 26th, 2009
Q.
Hi, I have had an reacurring abcess under one of my teeth for quite some time now (approx 3-4 years) when i say reacurring its proberbly never healed fully, when its ok the dentist says its very very small. the molar is in my lower right hand side jaw (T6 or number 19 I think) I have had two root canals done to the tooth one at first signs of symptoms and another 1-2 years ago, the tooth has a gold inlay on top of a special epoxy resin material as over two thirds of the visible tooth has been destroyed. Two weeks ago I went on holiday and the abcess flared up again for reasons unknown, I could not get medial treatment for around 5 days, as you can imagine it was quite painfull. After getting treatment (clyndamycin and nimesulide) the abcess subsided. Upon returning to the uk and seeing my dentist he has given me amoxycillin and a codine/nsaid treatment and said I “may” have a cracked or fractured root causing the abcess to not heal fully, and he suggested that removing the tooth is the best soloution. Now I do not want to get the tooth removed but the dentist says I have a quarter of an inch of material under the root and if the abcess gets down to that depth (the main nerve I think) in future it could cause more problems. Plus he has said the germs in the abcess might get resistant to the antibiotics. I know I could have done more to aid the tooth in healing and I try but wen the pain is gone i soon go back to my old habits (smoking/drinking) and I am a VERY bad tooth grinder at night (well my girlfriend tells me anyway) I am thinking that my bad habits have caused my abcess not to heal as much as anything? I there any alternatives I can try maybe an antibiotic targeted specifically at the germs in my abcess as I understand amoxycillin is a broad-spectrum drug and as such might not have enough punch to knock out a germ that might be getting resistant to it? the only alternatives I have are a dental bridge which would sacrifice a healthy tooth (the other one is filled) or a dental implant which would be two thousand pound according to my dentist. Thanks for reading my long winded question

How to fix a vertical indentation in my daughter’s gums above a missing tooth

Saturday, September 26th, 2009
Q.
I have benn trying to get any answers I can on how to fix a vertical indentation in my daughter’s gums above a congenitilly missing tooth. She had braces removed a few weeks ago and the separating of the teeth left the indentation. I was told yesterday by a Periodontist that a bone graft and mini, temporary implant would take care if this until she is old enough to have a perminant implant put in. And that they can be done at the same time. Please tell me if you think this is a good idea. Or will I be causing her more problems when she is older. I already feel that if I had asked more guestions and/or had a second opinion before the 2nd phase of braces she may not have a noticable indentation in her gums right in the front of her mouth. Thank you for your help.

Did my dentist have the right to extract my teeth without giving me the right options?

Saturday, September 26th, 2009
Q.
I wonder if you could give me some advise please.I had a bridge that had bercome loose, when i visited my dentist he said that i could not have it re-cemented as the two teeth anchoring the bridge had worn away and the only solution was to extract the two teeth and then he would replace with a new bridge. I went ahead and had the teeth surgically removed. when i returned for him to check the stitches he informed me that i could not have a bridge as the gap was too large and the only option was to have dentures or costly implants. I now have nasty plastic dentures that are very uncomfortable i have a constant lisp and find them very diffiucult to eat with. Did he have the right to extract my teeth without giving me options? the extractd teeth were fine, i had no decay, they had just worn down to the gum so the bridge could not adhere. After some research i found out that i could have had them posted and crowned. he did not give me that option. On my return visits he keeps trying to convince me to have implants, i cannot afford to go dow that route (£6000) I feel he is purely profiteering.|I am so upset as they are my near front teeth and used to have a perfect smile. I am devastated and constantly have to cover my mouth if i laugh or smile. do i complain to him? do i have any rights? can you confirm that i could have had crowns? please can you advise. Thankyou.

Q.
I need to have my front four teeth pulled I have lost bone over the years due to periondonal diease. I am looking at dental implants vs perm bridge? I have had a consultation regarding the dental implants and it was determined they would need to do a bone graph to build the bone back up. My quuestion is – will this last? What is your opinion on both procedures? Thanks
