What Advice Can You Give Me Following a Bad Dental Implants Experience?

Q.

Hi there. I had a maxillary posterior 3 tooth bridge partly taken out in January this year due to the back abutment (2nd molar) decaying despite attending hygienist sessions. The bridge was partly cut off along with the pontic and the other abutment tooth (root filled). My premolar tooth remains as a single crown. After 3 opinions from dentists who offer dental implants I chose the dentist who felt I didn’t need a bone graft and could install a short fat implant (Osteocare Mazi Z Flat end 4.5mm x 8mm) where the pontic had been and an Osteocare Mazi Z flat end 12mm x 5.5mm to replace my 2nd (back tooth) molar. He seemed confident and these were both placed in June this year. No detailed aftercare was provided, no follow up appointment and 3 weeks after the crown and post on the shorter implant fell out. I was appalled as I have paid this dentist over £4000 for his “expertise”. I went back immediately and now he wants to remove the last part of the original bridge and remove the tooth that I paid the same practice £800 for 2 years ago to provide a root filling. I don’t really feel comfortable with the same dentist now and have looked into the whole way this has been handled. The dentist I believe is about 60 years old and I noticed early on his hands trembled which was not reassuring. Plus why didn’t he assess my bone height and quality before going ahead with treatment? I was given no sinus lift or bone graft and now I am worried that the back implant may not last in the long term. He wants to give me an implant bridge (3 tooth on 2 implants) but I would rather have separate teeth. This was why I wanted implants originally and saved my money accordingly. I am due to have my premolar extracted in October but all I really want is to have a refund and go to someone who is going to do a proper assessment of that part of my jaw, which I understand is the most challenging area to place implants, and keep me fully informed of what he or she is going to do and a comprehensive aftercare programme which I believe is key to successful implants. What advice can you give me?

I Had Implants Fitted In Hungary But One Didn’t Take. Should I Demand That They Refit It?

Thursday, June 19th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Moore. I had six dental implants in total fitted which was completed in Budapest. Unfortunately one did not take. I had to go back to get it sorted when I returned to Budapest to have crown fittings. I have just been fitted with a zirconium crown for that implant but the implant is visible. The dentist whom did the crown has suggested waiting a month then he will fill the gap with a pink porcelain. What’s your opinion on this? Should I demand a refit or is this acceptable?

My Dental Implants Have Failed After 4 Years, What Should I Do Now?

Friday, July 26th, 2013
Q.

Hi Dr Patel. I had dental implants placed around four years ago in the Upper left jaw. The back implant I have been told has now failed as the bone has unfortunately shattered around it.

When the implant was fitted I was told did not have enough bone density but the implant seemed to just merge after about six weeks.

I now need to have the three tooth dental implant bridge removed because of its instability within the gums.
Once removed and healed would it be possible to rebuild the bone with a graft? Then replace with another inplant in its place? Or would you say that it’s too long-winded? I’m not really sure what I want to do now, seems a  bit too much trouble to be worth it if you ask me! Kind regards,

Is my dentist right to be attempting dental implant treatment again after they failed the first time?

Monday, April 2nd, 2012
Q.

Good Morning Dr Moore,
I embarked on implant treatment in 2003 and had my last six upper teeth removed and eight implants placed. One failed but I have seven which are fine and firmly sited. However, the bridgework (which took many months to get right, both in look and fit) keeps coming loose and I have had to return several times to get them removed and re-cemented in.
The dentist says this may be happening due to my strong bite (I have to wear a night guard because I grind my teeth).  My implants are placed around the front section (which he says is normal and that seven implants should be more than enough to support a full top bridge) however, because they kept coming loose he suggested removing the back teeth from the bridge leaving me with ten teeth. He thought that possibly because the bridge was not supported at the back it was rocking and coming loose?
This option has not worked and the bridge came loose within a few months again. I have now had a scan to see if there is sufficient bone further back to place another implant either side.
After looking at the scan he thinks he could place the implants at an angle just in front of where my sinus cavities are? Personally, I was hoping that they would be able to be placed further back creating a secure hold at the back of the bridge therefore allowing no movement. Apparently this is not an option without bone grafting.
Because I had an extremely traumatic time during my initial procedure (it took fourteen months to get everything right) I am obviously apprehensive about embarking on yet more treatment. He seems very confident that it would solve this problem.
Because of the issues I have experienced and also because we have built up a good relationship over the years he says he will do the work at basically cost price ?  but it still means me spending in the region of seven thousand pounds (two implants and new bridgework).
He also admits that the angled implants are a new thing and he has never placed them before but is confident.  I am concerned because of the proximity to me sinuses.  I feel a little lost as obviously I cannot discuss this with anyone qualified to give me advice and found this site online.
Please could you give me your independent view on things? Do you think what is suggested is the best option and is the price fair?
Thank you for your advice
