Can you detail the treatment I need because of decay under my crown?

Wednesday, February 16th, 2011
Q.

I had a crown put in 3 years ago and just recently found out that there is a lot of decay underneath it. I was wondering why it would be decayed since I thought the tooth was cleaned out before the procedure to avoid that complication. I must admit I have not been seeing a dentist regularly but now that I have Insurance again I would like know what the best option would be (the dentist also has to pull the tooth beside it).

I am not pleased with my porcelain crown, what should I do?

Wednesday, February 16th, 2011
Q.

I had a porcelain crown fitted last week to lower left 6. It required quite some filing to fit securley. This has caused a 1mm hole whereby the underlying metal filling is showing. Aesthetically this is not pleasing. I spoke to the dentist who is happy to replace with a precious metal as in thier view there is not enough tooth to sustain fitting a porcelain without having to re-file. I wonder if I am simply being fobbed off?

I want a quick fix for a broken tooth, what is best?

Friday, February 11th, 2011
Q.

Hi,
I have horrendous bronken front teeth and wondered if their is a ‘quick fix’ option out there?
I have been very ill these last ten years and am just recovering. I need to sort my smile out as I’m starting my own business and need my smile for potential customers? One front tooth is 3 quarters gone and the other about a third! Would veeners be an option??.

How much for a cap replacement and a dental implant?

Tuesday, February 8th, 2011
Q.

I knocked my front left tooth out about 9 years ago and have had various insufficient replacements since. During the accident I also chipped the other front tooth which has been capped and supports the left front fake tooth. I am now looking to have the cap removed and an implant to be inserted with a new cap. Basically what would you quote for a cap removal on the front right tooth, a 1 tooth implant on the left and a replacement cap for the right?

I need a bridge, do I have to have my root remove?

Tuesday, February 8th, 2011
Q.

I had a crown on my front tooth break off yesterday. Unfortunately, it broke the part of the tooth that was inside the crown so there is nothing to anchor the crown to. Dentist told me i have to have a bridge, which is OK, but I don’t understand why the root of the boken tooth has to be taken out. Why, as part of the bridge process, can’t the replacement tooth be glued to the root (like my temporary tooth currently is).

I am getting crowns, what type should I get?

Tuesday, February 8th, 2011
Q.

Dear Dr. Hughes,
I will be replacing my upper incisors and premolars with crowns and veneer on the canines. However, I have a cast post core on a lateral incisors. Should I go with procera crowns for all the incisors for unity. Or three empress and one procera. My dentist told me that empress will not block out the color from the metal core. I really like the translucent and natural appearance from the Empress crowns. Is there other zirconia copping crown with stacking that can have the same translucency? Thank you.
