Are there any other alternatives to partial dentures?

Monday, July 19th, 2010
Q.
Hi, my wife has gradually been losing teeth on her top and bottom palate for a number of years. She has finally been told by her dentist that she will have to lose another tooth as is broken. He has also told her that she will ned a partial denture on both her top and botton palate holding bewteen 4 and 6 teeth each. She has tried this before but is unable to wear a denture supplied by the nhs as she ends up gagging. I wonder what her options are. Can she get a different type of denture, what about implants or bridge work. It would be posible to find some funds to this privately if we could find the best solution.,

Are there any alternatives to adhesive bridges?

Friday, July 16th, 2010
Q.
Hello, I am shortly to have both my first lower molars extracted. Both were root canaled. I am chemically very sensitive and couldn’t tolerate them and became seriously ill. All my other teeth are totally sound just one small filling on upper R7. My bite is very even throughout my mouth. As the teeth on either side of the extraction sites are not filled and are sound my dentist is understandably reluctant to carve them down to place a fixed bridge. Due to my health implants are just not an option. My dentist is suggesting two adhesive bridges. I am worried as I don’t think this type of bridge would be strong enough in that position of my mouth and wouldn’t be able to support the forces of biting and chewing. Also I am worried that the pre-molars would be damaged by the strain of trying to take the weight of the missing first lower molars. Are there any othe options?,

Can I have a maryland bridge through the NHS?

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010
Q.
Hi, I used to have gap in my front teeth, but 15 years ago i went to a dentist to fill the gap as I do not like the the gap between my front teeth. After consulting with me the dentist decided to fill the gap by cutting down my both front theeth making them smaller and then fitting two big crown over it, after that the gap between my front teeth filled but not completetly(still small gap was there and my teeth look bigger as well) , i was not very happy . Now i have problem again, one of my front theeth is loose (with the crown on it)and nearly falling -( my gum is receding on that teeth and i have big gap now between my front teeth , i went to 4 diffrent dentist to get advise. 1st dentist said – remove both front teeth and have 6 unit fixed bridge as i can not suitable for implant – reason not enogh bone and result will not be as expected. 2nd dentist said – remove both front teeth then have bone craft then impalnt ( need to wait year to complete) 3rd dentist said – remove both front teeth and have 6 unit fixed bridge as i can not suitable for implant – reason not enogh bone and will not get good result by doing implant. 4th dentist said – i can have implant – no need for bone craft . i am confused now and i can not afford private treatment – please advise me what treatment i can have NHS. can i have mary land bridge work done in NHS? ( i do not want my other teeth to be alter ),

Would the removal of my two upper canines improve my overbite?

Friday, July 2nd, 2010
Q.
I’m interested in having my upper two canine teeth removed, and replaced with a bridge or dentures. I’m 23 years old and I’ve had a severe overbite for years. The overbite is manageable by holding my jaw a bit foreword (a now natural habit). I’m not interested in correcting the overbite. However, I have one problem I’m set on fixing: Those top 2 canine. My canines have caused my front-upper gumline to push outward unnaturally, giving me the appearance of a monkey or the “Homer Simpson” look. The maxilla juts out and gives m y face very boxy appearance around the mouth. I’m suggesting that if my 2 upper canines were removed, and the bone of the pallete grinded/cut down under the gumline area, an oral surgeon could correct this “boxy” appearance of my mouth and lips.,
